Im using the 512mb version and it runs great!
How much does the 1gb version cost? cos if it costs a fair amount you might want to go for something stronger, or put 2 weaker ones in SLI

The ATi 4850 is a little more and kills the 9600GT.

ouch yea the 1gb version costs R2300 - you can nearly get a 4850 for that. But you can get the XFX 9600 gt with I think 320mb for R1300, that's a pretty good buy.

320MB is a little on the low side for today's games... rather get a 512MB. If you can afford it (and this coming from an Nvidia fan), get the 4850 or maybe the 4870 is you can squeeze enough out of your pocket.

Agreed, the HD48XX series is the better choice at the moment :)

While the 4850 is a good card if your on a tight budget surely this card is the business.

If you can afford a grand or so more buy the 4850 but this alpha dog 9600 will play games really well and is very cheap.

Besides I'm pretty sceptical how much of that 1gb it's going to actually use.

Crysis lags on a 512MB 9600GT... not because the card cannot keep up... but because it runs out of video memory (we logged the game stats and kept on getting that message).

It will last more than a year.... I will give you that. In a year's time it will be equivalent to the current 4870 IMO

It'll last at least two, I think :D
I wouldn't mind trading in my 8800GT for one of those :D

It was compared to the 4870x2 or something and rated a little faster (like 5-10% or something)... and to put it this way, the 9600GT can't run today's games on 100%....

The 4870X2 costs R6999 ... so the GeForce is good value ...
I also requested aXeRam, does it make a huge difference compared to the standard Ram ?

Well, If you check here (http://www.computersonly.co.za/productlist.aspx?categoryid=36093) you will see that the 4870x2 is cheaper than the GTX280 and it is faster.
Luckily I bought mine when they still costed R5500 :D

Not really, especially for the price. If you're already buying a GTX280 though you might as well spend money on the other parts.

Probably won't see much improvement at stock speeds, but might have more overclocking headroom. But I agree, I'd rather spend the money on something else :)

yeah i see that but different brands ( i know they all the same [or am i wrong?] ). Concerning the speed, what exactly is faster ?

aXeRam DDR3-1800 = R1349
Standard DDR3-1333 = R849
yeah could have bought a 1.5TB HDD instead of 1TB :o
