Of the more than two dozen soccer matches to be televised live on SuperSport this weekend, a fixture between teams that are nowhere near the top of the Absa Premiership log is likely to be watched by more South Africans than any of the others.
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates meet in Mmabatho on Saturday, with live coverage on SuperSport 4 on DStv starting at 15:30.
Most of the top clubs in England, Spain, Italy and Portugal will be in action this weekend. Their fixtures, as well as the African Champions League final and the final of the Under-17 women’s World Cup tournament, will be shown live.
But it’s the one between the traditional rivals that will draw a big crowd to the Mafikeng Stadium, and will be watched in all corners of South Africa, especially after their league victories on Wednesday.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Roma, Sporting and other famous clubs are among those whose matches will be shown live.
