Pretoria - Telkom spokesperson Andrew Weldrick died on Monday, the company said in Pretoria.

Communications head Amanda Singleton said his body was found on a couch in the lounge of his Centurion home about 14:00.

Weldrick, 38, appeared to have died of natural causes but this still had to be confirmed by an autopsy.

Singleton said Weldrick had been scheduled to attend a media briefing in the morning on Telkom's retrenchment plans. He had arranged the event in Johannesburg as the company's senior media relations manager.

Singleton said the first indication that something was amiss was when journalists started calling because the briefing did not take place as planned.

"After trying in vain to reach Andrew by phone, we went to his house where his body was found."

Weldrick was living alone at the time.

I didn't know the chap, but my condolences go to those affected - loss of life in any circumstances, particularly at that age, is reason for us all to give pause and reflect on life's impermanence...

Condolences to the family and friends.

It's time like these that one reflects on our short stay on earth and our desires to experience life's little pleasures. Much like MyADSL's quest for decent, affordable broadband some time soon. I hope this could be also a reminder to Telkom that the clock is ticking for all of us.

It wasn't me. Maybe a case of some taking it from the streets to their homes. In extremely poor taste, this joke, and totally unsensitive. I do however, believe in Karma and whom knows? The universe works in mysterious ways...
