Jerusalem - Israel has had it with spam.

Anyone who sends out messages without receiving the recipient's consent can now be slapped with a big fine.

Last June, a new law gave solicitors six months to ask prospective clients if they wanted to receive unsolicited messages. The deadline expired on Monday.

The communications ministry said violators could be sued for $250 for every unsolicited message.

Pestered Israelis can go to court five times a year and each time file up to 30 claims against a single company.

The law applies to solicitations by text message, e-mail and telephone.

It is modelled on similar European statues.

Public relations companies, the Haaretz newspaper and various businesses were sending out e-mails on Monday seeking last-minute consent.

This is just what we need, cause if I get one more e-mail, phone call trying to sell me a second bond on my house I'm gonna go all crazy....

Woooohoooo! There's a light at the other end of the tunnel! Now we just need to figure out how to stop these random people claiming that some twice removed uncle/rich guy has left an enourmus heritage for you. The best one I got was apparently from the FBI... lol

I remember I read a thread on this forum with regards to a nigerian buying stuff with stolen credit cards and how they recorded everything. Was very funny how he has a Afrikaans name with an Australian passport and a african accent. LOL

Awesome idea.... I had a new domain for 2 weeks before starting to receive this funky spam... and recurring names, "kate@domain".... and so on....

I don't even have a credit card, debt or a house and have received multiple sms messages offering me extended loans and so-on... really annoying.
