Looking for a some opinions / advice on switching banks.. For reasons that I won't go into right now, ABSA have finally managed to hack me off enough to make me want to move all business away from them to someone else... So was thinking of moving homeloan to SAHomeLoans and current account / credit account to 20Twenty.. Any experience / things to watch for ?

Spare your self a lot of headaches and regret – go to PA Better Bond – they will submit your application to a few banks who in turn will offer you a better rate than what you will get by applying for it your self.

On the banking side – what is wrong with you? You should have switched to 20twenty a long time ago!

ABSA *mumble*

20Twenty is an option, but I suggest you compare their charges to Icanonline. Icans interest on credit balances is MUCH more and their charges for things like debit orders and transfers is MUCH less. You be the judge.

On the banking side, you might also want to look at FNB. The free internet banking is quite spiffy I must say, and they have extremely reasonable terms of service. I do not pay service fees if I keep my account ballance above R6000, and people with comparatively smallish salaries, like R60 000+ p/a, can get silver cheque and credit cards, i.e., 55 day interest free credit.

They are also the only bank in S.A. that are paranoid enough about security for my liking. My internet banking is secured with the normal username and password, which must be accompanied by a one-time password, generated by a tiny secret PIN protected device, hooked to my key-chain. I receive immediate SMS notification of all internet banking log-ins and any transaction, in or out of the account.

The eBucks rewards are quite nice too, if you can pot a few up, go and spoil yourself to a nice new MP3 player or plasma TV at DigitalPlanet. [:D]
