Hi guys ;)

We're running a domain environment at work with more than 100 pc's.

I've been looking for something for the past 2 days (didn't actually look for 2 days, but spend a lot of time on it) to audit/show which type of RAM a system has.

Basically, we needed to create a report which shows exactly where/who and what systems contain a certain amount of RAM.

Problem is, this is needed for future upgrades, which means it has to be spot on, dead specific.

I need the exact RAM type eg. PC3200 etc. and I need to know how many slots each motherboard has in order to cater for the upgrade etc.

At the end of the day, today, I spent about the whole day phoning and vnc'ing to the pc's and ran a utility which showed me the required information.

I saw apps such as lansweeper (which completely sucks IMHO, it's a useless P.O.S) and I've seen a few commercial applications, but none of these offered the functionality I requried. It details how much RAM is installed, but it did not detail the type, which is definitely required.

Many of these apps use WMI to get the details, which many of you will know is a complete pain in the rear, as there is always 5 out 10 pc's, even properly configured that shows some type of jazz error in resolving the details.

What do you guys use and suggest? So that I can know and start using it for future reference.

I would appreciate something free, but if it's not too expensive, I'll pass the quote on to management.

Thanks guys ;)

get pstools
run cmd with user that has domain rights
use "psinfo.exe * > domain.csv"
there is one switch to run aswell to make csv output better not on windows now so cant check. think its /b or /c for verbose mode

oops just read your post with more detail psinfo wont give type or open slots.

type of pc's and server Dell HP?

Pc's range from different specs. It would be hard to generalize them all to be honest. Servers are mostly HP.

HP servers u could use HP SIM to export the info if SNMP is setup on servers.
Other than that any app that uses SNMP would be the best bet to get the PC's memory slot info I would say. Just deploy SNMP to all devices.

Will it tell me the exact RAM details? RAM type, frequency, maximum capacity, how many slots are on the motherboard etc?

I use PlateSpin Recon quite a bit. Very good tool: http://www.platespin.com/products/recon/packaging.aspx. Free for up to 100 clients, designed for servers should work on XP? Or try SANDRA: http://www.sisoftware.net/, you might have to pay. One of my clients uses ChiliSoft, (I think that the name), also free, and they quite happy.

Try this, does the job, we use it at work, the free version will do what you require and then some.
