I think you are right, I did not see Pompey play, but from what I read they started giving teams a go. IIRC 'pool struggled against them recently.

I think he needed some time to get the team to settle down. The sold Diarra and Defoe, those two are really good players and it would take time for a team to recover.

Adams has worked under some of the best coaches in England and I think he will be a good manager one day.

You get sacked when you only win two of 16 EPL games since taking over.

Wasn't he sacked before Scolari. I'm sure I read about his sacking before Scolari's... or am I wrong?

Same day but I think Adams was sacked first.

You all need to realize that while Scolari was a "seasoned campaigner" who put big expectations on himself, the latter is true for Adams. He is young and lost a couple of key players. He should have gotten more time, simply because Portsmouth could have had one of the great managers of our time in him. Could have. I'll reserve final judgment for 10 years from now :p

Don't just look at the stats. Portsmouth were very unlucky in quite a few games. Three that watched where they lost because of pathetic defending mistakes(Which Adams could do nothing about) was against Liverpool(Home and away) and Aston Villa.

He was responsible for everything that happend on the pitch.

The EPL is not a place where you go to learn your trade, since he took over portsmouth they have been pathetic getting knocked out of the uefa cup,fa cup and only getting four wins out of 22 matches.

I think the jump from a league 2 team (he even led them to relegation) to the EPL was 2 quick 2 soon for him.

Anywayz they look to be getting Sven in as manager and that will change their fortunes for sure.

Exactly. The coach's job is to get the team motivated and develop strategies. There is no way he can control human error on the pitch.

He chooses the formation/the players/gameplan if he puts a player on the pitch in a position that results in a pathetic mistake then its his fault.

Pourtsmouth display week in/out became a joke under him.

A manager plays a VERY important role off and on the pitch.

I disagree with sentence number 1.

When he took over they were in 7th position and were still in europe, they now fighting relegation.
His previous team he led to relegation.

Those are the facts, his a pathetic manager.

Yes, I'm not denying that, but I'm saying the manager can't be held accountable for a stupid mistake that a player makes. He can give them all the strategies in the world but it's still up to the players to make it happen. The game against Liverpool was a case-in-point. They should've won that game (and Tony may have still been their coach, and this win might have turned things around), but a few players panicked and made stupid mistakes that cost them the game and Tony his job. Confidence plays a large part as well. So many times we see teams play poorly and then suddenly when they get a good win, everything changes and they start playing really well. This could have been the case had one or two players (one former Liverpool player btw), had not made silly errors.

The problem is that the liverpool performance was not a once off that was how pourtsmouth played under him, they lost the lead in games a number of times.Always losing the lead late in the game.

Its his job to make sure that problematic players/formations/gameplan don't keep repeating themselves. The Problem was clear as day, it was his job to get it sorted and thats the difference between a good manager and tony adams.

Tony Adams will never be any good in certain peoples opinions, notably Tottingham :) supporters. I'll back the Arsenal legend to succeed as a manager in the premier league. I think pompey were far too hasty in booting him out.

Bollocks. Zola's a Chelsea legend and the spanners faithful welcomed hin with open arms.

Then again it could be different for Englishmen - 40000 Chelsea people put their signature to a petition against George Graham as manager. Go figure... people can be wierd like that :)
