Before I start, I'd like to tell you that there will be some mature language, especially if you are a WoW lover - you'll find the language very mature.
So if you are abit sensitive, click here (http://www.johnvidas.com/Site/home/Entries/2008/11/14_Orcs_and_Dorks_files/southpark.jpg) and forget all about this :)
If not - here goes.

As most of you know, blizzard have turned into award winning game designers of Diablo and Starcraft (and Warcraft) to greedy money hogging World Of Warcraft makers...

Where did it all go wrong? Let me set the record straight for those of you whom don't know.

Blizzard NORTH were the creators and designers of Diablo 2. The geeky (yet talented) coders were from Blizzard's side. They eventually moved on and became Flagship Studios as you know.

Why did Hellgate London fail when they had Blizzard coders? Well... thats what happens if you let coders create the story, design and mechanics of the game. Coders should stay coders! Thats what they specialize in.

Here is what you don't know. Blizzard North were the original team working on World of Warcraft. They quit the company while working on this program since they had a disagreement on how the game should be made. My opinion of this is simply that Blizzard wanted to make a game that is completely and ridiculously addictive, making you work while you pay them. I've played this piece o **** game and can vouch for this - This game is a complete mind **** for retards.

Blizzard North went on to design their own MMO... guess whom they are?
You've guessed it! Arena Net. Guildwars. Thats why they didn't have the funds to make the game open world from the word go. I've also read in interviews with Arena Net that they will never try to snoop down as low as blizzard have gone, they will make GW2 for the people - a game you can jump into and have fun instantly. They will not implement monthly charges, but not to be funny, I don't see how they will be able keep their servers running without doing so.

If in the end they do decide to charge us a fee per month for playing, I'm all for it.

Don't get me wrong, I am still looking forward to their upcoming releases such as Diablo 3 (which will be developed by the WoW creators, shrug..) and Starcraft 2 especially. What they've done with WoW might have been pretty low - but lets hope they put that money to good use.

I play, and enjoy, both games so I feel somewhat unbiased in this regard.

The reason I like WoW is the actual fact that you cant just jump in. When I hit sunwell I felt a massive sense of achievement. Getting to level 70, gearing for months, learning my char so well that I could do 50 different things without thinking about it. The feeling of healing my ass off keeping over eager DPS alive... Truly exhilarating (for me at least).

On the other GW. Whenever I log on I simply just sit and stare at my char screen for a few seconds while scrolling through all 12 of them. They just look so amazing. I then I log in and I can just jump in and continue where I left off. I can stop playing for months at a time, and yet I can still enjoy it as much as I did when I logged off. The graphics is simply amazing, especially considering the age of it.

I cannot say what game is the better game. Both games appeal to me in different ways. Neither of them is perfect, and both of them have different things that piss me off. I never understood the fanboi mentality that makes people call the other one ****. WoW and Anet is both in it for the money, so saying one is for the gamers and the other is moneyhoggers is pointless, and somewhat immature. The fact is that both of them are doing it for the gamers (kinda obvious since its the target market), and both of them are doing it for the money.

WoW was fun until you got through the pve content/pvp/exploration... GW has more exploration, but lacks the deep fantasy lore behind it.

No offense and to be frank, I don't think you bothered to find out more about the lore.
All the fansites have lore subforums. Even the wiki covers the lore.
There is a helluva lot of lore a HUGE amount of GW players don't even know about....

For instance,

Did you know Devona's father (Mordakai) was one of Ascalon's Chosen (led by King Adelbern), one of the most respected guilds in GW? He died defending the city walls (during The Battle for Kyhlo, that lasted for 3 days, Ascalon City was called Kyhlo in beta days) against an Orrian guild (Zealots of Shiverpeak) during the last Guild War (The Guild Wars only ended due to the Charr invasion and humanity had to make a stand together). Burian, a monk, rebirth'd him when he died the first time, but he went back for more and was overwhelmed by the enemy forces (who took out the clerics first, once they breached into the Guild Hall)
Devona was but a little girl when her father died.

Read the battle here - http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Battle_for_Kyhlo_(Day_One)

There are many more such examples, but like I said, the majority of players don't know about it, and never bother to find out more, so they just assume the same as you did.

ArenaNet have been quoted as saying that they discovered a way to allow for a persistent world where they thought it was previously impossible.

They're pretty good at innovating. The Guild Wars engine, for example, was designed by them and is used exclusively for the game. I'm sure many won't dispute that it's extremely efficient in many respects, especially when it comes to resource use and requirements.

With regards to lore - Guild Wars is rich in it. Markings, for example, have been found in the Crystal Desert that indicated all along that Nightfall would be the third campaign. It's awesome stuff.

Apparently a trilogy of Guild Wars novels are being written too!

Yep ... but the amount of lore in GW2 is going to be stunning - if you consider that it'll be bringing forward the GW lore and adding another 250 years of backstory to it.

I'm a little ashamed to say that I don't know much of the lore either (a bit of it on the NF side of things, but that's it) - having the bonus mission pack opens up a bit of it for you. I just think GW lore isn't so much in your face - just as in real life, if you want to know the history - you have to go looking for it.

Read the manual people :p They put a lot of effort in the Guild Wars Manuscripts. I read the Prophecies manual a number of times as it was so well done. Not many games have awesome manuals anymore. Most opt for something digital.

I'm hoping GW2 has a nice thick one :D

I love reading those. I remember Diablo 2's manual kept me busy for a while :)
