Minimum value to be taxed for imports?

Is there a minimum value where you start paying VAT and import duties on imports?

All depends on the item being imported. Some stuff is tax free others are not.

Have a look on the SARS website. Look for import duties. There is a PDF you can download will give you all the details. Schedule 1 Part 1 if I remember correctly.
