The driver of a car that slammed into a crowd in the Netherlands, killing six people and narrowly missing an open-topped bus carrying Queen Beatrix and other members of the royal family, has died of injuries he suffered in the crash, Dutch authorities reported on Friday. A dozen other people were hurt Thursday when the car sped through a crowd attending a festival for the royal family in the town of Apeldoorn, then careened into a stone monument. Shortly afterward, the man, a 38-year-old Dutchman who has not been otherwise identified, admitted that he had aimed the car at the royal family, Dutch officials said. They provided no details as to a possible motive.
