Depending on the reason why you sold your car in the first place - no.

If you liked the car you had, you will probably like the new version too.

Drive it. A car on paper is as good as the paper. Get behind the wheel and you will know right away. Good luck.

How can you afford an M3 but still have time to jack around on MyBB all day? :)

I agree - just get in the car and drive it. I spent hours and hours pouring over car magazines, making short lists based on stats. Then when i actually drove the 5 cars on my list, i knew immediately which one i liked best. And the one i thought i should buy based on stats was the worst car of the 5.

Drive, and you'll just know.

read the thread and title! ... i had an 2008 BMW E92 M3 DCT!! ... and want to buy another one after having sold this one ... so no need for me to drive another one

all day on MyBB??? whats that gotta do with this thread ... and honestly im not

how can i afford the M3?? ... well nicely and ill buy it cash ... :p ... but again whats that got to do with the thread???

i agree and did look at a 996 turbo ... BUT ... no motorplan, for e.g. a clutch costs R20k ... it will be very expensive to maintain without a motorplan ...

The R35 i presume you talking about, am on the list ... only end of this year will it come ... well im in the second batch of 25, first batch get theirs in October ... so im told ...

there are R34's i have heard of, for around R650k ... but modded to "hell and gone" and tracked like crazy, so a no no for me :)

Doomie61, the cars you mentioned i have definitely looked at :) ... we think alike :) ... the others im considering is a 997 Carrera S, R8, 997 GT3 (but id be really stretching)

Get an R8!!

yes yes ... but then my friend drove one today and told me it not as exciting as he thought it would be ... again is the price ...

And something reliable (Fiesta) on the side line for when the R8 is in the garage.

oh yes, with every trophy car i have had another car ... i think its insane someone buying a trophy car without a second car at least ... that just my view though

Get a Cayman.

My dad says i should get a cayman S, buy it brand new ... im not sure ...

well i did go and see the M3 at "AnyCar" and was in a nutshell treated like **** ... i wont recommend going to that dealership ...

Isn't the GT3's ride ridiculously hard? Why not go for a GT2 rather? ;) Yes yes, I know they're expensive, but the Lord saw fit to give you two kidneys for a reason!
That being said, I'll let you employ me and give me the 135i as a signing bonus because I'm such a good person! :D

Wow! It is sobering to realise that there are still people out there who's major dilemma is making a choice between buying another M3, an R8 or a Porsche 911 turbo...for cash nogal! And all of this while there's a 135i sitting in the garage at home!

Any of those cars are worth more than my house (which comes with a 20 year bond which I'm k*kking to pay for). The daily dilemmas that I'm dealing with are more along the lines of whether I can risk letting my wife drive around for another month with bald tires on her '95 Corolla until I can hopefully scrape together enough money for a couple couple of front tires or if I should go right ahead and see if I can fit the cost onto the budget facility of my credit card. We sure live in different worlds!

Having said that, if I was ever to be put into a position where my "dilemma" was making a choice between a bunch of supercars then my decision will be very easy: I wouldn't buy any of those. Instead, I would buy a 2009 1.6 Corolla and with the change I would buy a nice clean Cessna 182 or even a twin like a Baron 58. 'Nuff said. But I guess you've already got a few aeries parked in a hangar somewhere so this advice wouldn't apply.....:D

Nah, sorry mate, can't help you with your dilemma. Good luck with your choice.

Yes, yes. My point is actually that for some of us our passion in life is, by necessity, trying to make ends meet and keeping a roof over our heads and keeping the children fed. Having to decide which supercar to buy (for cash) is so far removed from my daily reality that we might as well live on different planets. I cannot afford to buy fancy paintings any more than I can afford to go on a world tour or buy a supercar.

I guess I'm trying to say that you should consider yourself very fortunate because there is a very, very small number of people in South Africa that are in your position. Please note that I'm not trying to berate you in any way. I wish you all the best with your decision.

Messugga

StrongTurd, you'd be silly NOT to buy a supercar cash ;)
Anyway, can't say I've even been in most of the cars mentioned in this thread, nevermind driven them(Unfortunately, since I adore cars...ask the missus) so it's a bit tough to say.
There are some very fine pieces of machinery available in Europe that we unfortunately just don't get here.
Do you want this as a daily drive or a toy? Do you just want something with character, that stands out from the crowd, with fantastic engineering and workmanship having been put into it?
How do you feel about something a bit more classic in nature?

whats VAG?

Volkswagen Audi Group, an obsolete name (1978-1992) of the current Volkswagen Group (Volkswagen AG), a German automaker.

What to get instead of a VAG :
Adam Opel GmbH (Opel)
Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW)
Daimler AG (Mercedes)

Just out of interest :
AG VS GmbH : The GmbH has become the most common corporation form in Germany, since the AG (Aktiengesellschaft), the other major company form corresponding to a stock corporation, was until recently much more complicated to form and operate.

I don't suppose he still has it? I'd love to buy it, not that I can afford it of course :D
My dad has always been into classic cars and we have an old beetle as a daily and a 1960 Karmann Ghia, 100% fully restored, with a brand new engine out of a crate, when it was finished a few years ago. I don't think it has 5000km on the clock yet. I'll inherit it eventually.
I've been wanting a car with character and heritage for some time now, and going classic is the best way to get that, I feel, but unfortunately I'm yet to find something I like that I can actually afford. You'd be amazed at how expensive old Ferrari's are! I'd kill for an Austin Healey 3000 or a 62 Corvette or similar year

He's had a 335i before too.

Not with a 7 speed semi-automatic gearbox with double clutch transmission, i think

I would like to take this time, to express my disdain and envy towards you.

Sadly she is not ours any more. The owner at the moment lives in Hillcrest, and he has had a long and passionate affair with her, so I doubt if he would sell!! :D Offers around 500k the last time he thought about it, then changed his mind!! She is one of only three 140's still running in SA. There are a couple of others in the process of being rescued at the moment, but they are as rare as hens teeth. If you follow that link you will see that the car I drive every day has a Healey 3000 motor!! You can also see the Healey 100M that I used to rally in Joburg. :D

I have had a 335i convertible, an M3 Manual M-Dynamic (was not mine, but put 2000km on it) ,an M3 7spd DCT and now the 135i ...

so anyone that compares 135i/335i to an E9x M3 ... you just cant ... M3 is a superior car ... you have to drive both cars extensively to appreciate this fact ...

the more i think of it, the more im thinking ill just buy cars at good prices and use the cars for a month or so and sell them ... sell them for what i paid for them as a worst case scenario ...

Adamr - I am thinking of either getting a 4door M3 or a 335i convertable.
What is your impressions on the 335 compared to the M3 - I know you feel the M is just a better car....but convertable?

Of course the //M is the better car (compared to the 335), the same way a V12 Vanquish may be better than a V8 Vantage, but in the real world there is a thing called "value for money". Probably one the main reasons why high performing cars hardly ever feature as 'Car of the Year'.

So all I'm saying is... at altitude, the 335 offers better value for money compared to the //M, but hey who cares about money? :p

ps. I have driven these cars extensively ;)

had the 335i convertible for a year and the M3 also a year .... (amazing how time flies)

the 335i is a nice car indeed ... but the best way for me to describe it is take a 320i and drive it at 120km/h, and then do the same with a 335i drive it at 120km/h .... they no different and im sure you will agree ... will feel like the same car, just the one is faster than the other, its like comparing a 1.4 polo to a 1.6 polo ... the M3 is more than just being faster, its a different car ... The M3's dynamics are all different ... like this 135i i have now, its faster than the 335i vert ive had, but it much of the same ... is the M3 worth twice the price? ... maybe not .... i still love the M3, it does play on your heart strings

a 335i to me has a great engine, the M3 is a great car

im not sure if im making much sense :)

I'm an Audi fan.
Had i been in your "predicament", my decision would be simple. place my order for an Audi TT-RS. Have the patience to wait until it gets launched here, then find the guy who bought my old M3 and race him, obviously beating him (0-100 in 4.6s) and selling the car to him at a R100 000 premium.
