No need to, it downloads from the local akamai server even if you use the link from the microsoft website.

I couldn't get FDM to work - not for the first time, it downloaded something else, in this case a 118K Web page. The URL that FDM uses to download changes from the one mentioned in Stickfigure's reply above to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/. There's some redirect / site translation going on that I don't understand. The download works if I use the normal IE downloader (corporate standard !) but I would prefer to use FDM. If anyone has an suggestions I would be grateful.

Copied Sitckfigure's link from the first page of this thread, paste it into IDM which should open a download dialog box (happens automatically if you have IDM properly installed).
Alternatively in IDM go Tasks > Add New Download, paste his link to the URL field then Start Download.
Works on Local, as stated.

Tried that with 5.17 and it quite useless as it redirects back to the Windows 7 homepage.

But I thought Microsoft said RC was going to be the only distributed release and after that people would have to wait for RTM.

But a lot of the people Microsoft give builds to for testing purposes leak the builds on torrent sites.
