Was wondering if Vodacom3G can answer this :
Has vodacom identified key locations to roll 3G out to as a priority. Would have thought places like airports and major places, and places where business people are alot and are mobile would be first ports of calls?
Will check CPT airport just now (be there around 19:30), but Cape Town Waterfront is not covered by 3G. Would have thought that would be a logical place to ensure coverage.
Just a thought. And would be interesting to know Vodacom's thinking in terms of roll out plans, if that is not internal secrets :-)

Sorry about that. Turns out for some reason first attempt was GPRS, got 3G now, but very bad quality
Still interesting to know answers anyway :-)

Currently there are around 500 sites and this will triple over the year with the addition of another 1000 sites at a rate of around 100 sites per month.
Sites with the highest potential to serve 3G usage profiles is obviously high on the list, including air ports and other areas of with high density.
Will also try and obtain a list of planned sites.
How about a voting system on myADSL where members can list their 3 most important sites?
Radio Planning would appreciate potential-site selection information.
Harley79, will check up on the Waterfront. Please PM me where you were at the Waterfront when you did the test.

1: Your posting on a Sunday, either your very dedicated to your job or your a forum junkie like the rest of us :D
2: Great idea, It would definately give you an idea of sites that may need priority. It shows interest in your potential customers.

Guess I was too slow on this one. I am sure airports have already been provisioned. CPT airport 4/5 bars.

my votes from a business perspective would be
1.) major shopping centres
2.) major hotels
3.) major routes (may need to send that mail on the move) :-)
in all major cities :-)

The whole Cape coast line so that I have data access whilst at sea. :)
Off topic but, we had a 12 hour Sea Rescue operation today and most of the time radio coverage was poor, however, Vodacom coverage was excellent and our fall back when important information had to be exchanged. Unfortunately it was a last resort as we are a voluntary organization and need to keep costs down, but Vodacom is a life saver, literally, in such circumstances.
