Hi,
I got my 3G the first week in January and have since had one issue which Vodacom support has not been able to resolve.
1. No covarage in any major centres. In specific Sandton, Durban and Benoni. I have had successful 3G connection in Florida and Midrand and the DBN and JHB airports however. I know it's limited coverage but when will coverage be expanded as the coverage map include these areas but I still can't connect after a sim/card swap ?
2. When using GPRS rather then 3G is the GPRS usage counted towards the 1G data limit or seperatly billed and how does the billing for SMS's from the Data Card get billed ?
Hopeful for a postive response

As posted in another thread the current 500 or so sites will triple over this year to around 1500.
Obviously the areas where potential 3G data usage is the greatest will be targeted first.
We're working on a system where you can request coverage for a specific area. In the mean time, PM me your wish list and I'll collate.
Your 1G bundle is made up of any data you use, 3G or GPRS. The dashboard do have 2 seperate counters to show your split but from a billing perspective they're added together.
You can also look on www.vodacom4me.co.za to check your usage.

Thanks Vodacom3G - Will PM you the list. Just received the new Vodacom Pricelist for data. I am assuming 3G users can upgrade too any of the packages available as well ?
3 cheers for vodacom (never thought I, the biggest mtn supporter would ever say it)
but i believe the future is not sentech or iburst, its vodacom. sentech/iburst can only dream about the coverage the cell companies have . im sold. well done guys.

please tell me when areas such as umhlanga, springfield, reservoir hills and westville will be covered in durban.
i am waiting for these areas and then i will definately get 3g asap.
also would the normal sim that we have now work with a 3g phone or data card? or do we need a special 3g sim. i am confused.

I have to agree and the reason why 3G was my first option. IBurst are having similiar coverage issues at the mo. The 3G options is great because I know I can get coverage on either GPRS or 3G. Even though GPRS is slower it is still reliable and works. Connectivety is therefore guaranteed. I know MTN is planning a rollout much later this year, but I think Vodacom made a very smart move regarding data.

Too my knowledge you only need a data enabled SIM card. This means any 32K sim will work. I know I heard a rumour of a 64K SIM being launched later this year.

AFAIK, you just need it provisioned for data/3g. 64k would be nice. ESP when it comes to adding more WIG apps. :D

Quite correct, you don't need a special SIM, only to have your current SIM provisioned for 3G and/or data. Just a call to 111 or your SP, it's a no cost option.
ash - please PM me with your coverage suggestions / requirements. I'd rather get you in contact with the radio planning people in Durbs. They'll be keen to get your feedback.
