Help please. I am on MTN and have a F@stlink E220. I want to move to Telkom.
Telkom's website is complicated. My needs are:
1) Cheapest 1 Gig pm.
2) Be able to use GoogleTalk.
Is fixed line cheaper than wireless?
Can I use my F@stlink or does Telkom not have wireless?

Stoopid questions perhaps but I need to leave MTN due to their k@k.

Hey marco. Check your Telkom 3G coverage here (http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/w-cdma/do_move/western_cape_map.html). The 1GB option is R219/month. Depending on whether you already have or need a fixed line, this might be slightly cheaper than ADSL.

For 1GB, fixed line is not cheaper than wireless.

MTN HSDPA R289
ADSL R199 (ADSL and 1GB Cap) + R130 (line rental) = R329

You can get Nashua Broadband on contract (R139) which would total including your line rental to R269 which is cheaper, but you are only getting 384kbps

If you are having trouble with MTN, try Vodacom. Just get a pre-paid sim and try it out for a month. I find Vodacom has better coverage and speeds than MTN, but thats only my experience.

Thank you for the info. No 3G in Simon's Town. So will have to use VC as MTN cuts prepaid customers off in peak times.

I've been out of this area very long - do you still need to add a monthly ISP cost to the ADSL costs quoted here? If so, how much?

I think that those are the prices you are looking at all in.

The cheapest around is still Screamers at R199 for a 1Gig package including a 512 line and connection fees.
