We just completed a new system and started looking for a dvd writer. Thinking they might have it at a good price I decided to call Hi-Fi Corporation (corruption)... BIG MISTAKE!!!
First the guy "Eric" (the sales person in that department) tells me he'll phone me back in 5 minutes, an hour pass and I call back.
Me: Hi Erick, I am looking for a dvd writer, please also tell me if it's SATA or IDE.
Erick: No Ma'am, it's a VISTA!!!
I'm like WTF! You've gotta be kidding me! He eventually has about 4 people running up and down just to finally get back to me with the same answer:
Ma'am, it's a VISTA dvd player, and it's plug and play.
HOW do people like this get jobs in the computer and electronics department???!!!
OMW, please help us...
So much for phoning an "electronics" franchise.

Why on earth would you want to buy any pc stuff at HiFi Corp anyway?

as DJK always said - "don't buy steak at a fish and chips shop"
HIFI isn't the place to go to for computer equipment, only for cheap DVD Players (For your TV) - even the "X-PC" Computer shop next to the Cash crusaders is a better idea.
funny story though, lol!

Your first mistake was going to Hi-Fi Corp. They know as much about electronics as I do about rocket science.

If he has to go that far, then that person is clearly not qualified to be working in that department. I would have asked to speak to someone else. Someone competent.

I hope you learnt your lesson!
Maybe you were thinking of Incredible Corruption!

Wanted to go there as they have a special on the lite-on Drives for R199. Lol, Well, that's it for me and HI FI corruption...
By the way Mercurial, it was him or one of his 4 cronies that told him it's a VISTA dvd writer. hehehe

Wait for the Windows 7 model - it'll be faster and prettier than the Vista model.

Ooooh, ask them about OS/2 Warp Lan server :D
Or whether they'll pre-install Ubuntu :D
Ask them if you can get 8Gb RAM preinstalled with any 32-bit system :D:D

My 4gb system came pre-installed with a 32bit OS. I went back and asked wtf and they all just looked at me with a blank stare - and I'm not even a geek ffs...

Could be a 'Fong-Kong' DVD writer that literally is called 'Vista' or some trademark dodging derivation like 'Wista.'

Last time I looked Hi-Fi Corp and Incredible Connection were part of the same group of companies, ie. same owners.

I bought my Samsung 18x lightscribe DVD writer at Hi-fi corp in 2006 for R300, which back then was a good price. Just fsck the Nero software that came with it that fscked up all my DVD's! I now use Burn4Free, an app that I completely rewritten in Afrikaans. The only translation for 'eject' I could find was 'ejakuleer'.

Just ask the salesperson for the model number and then look for the details online ...
