From the 1st of March data users will receive two SMS's notifying them of their usage status.

The 1st will be at the specified threshold according to the table below while the 2nd SMS will be send when the cap has been reached.

Threshold SMS:

Bundle Threshold Remaining Data

MyMeg/3G 0 N.A. N.A.
MyMeg/3G 20 75% 5MB
MyMeg/3G 75 80% 15MB
MyMeg/3G 150 80% 30MB
MyMeg/3G 250 80% 50MB
MyMeg/3G One 95% 0.05Gig
MyMeg/3G Two 95% 0.1Gig
MyMeg/3G Three 95% 0.15Gig
MyMeg/3G Five 95% 0.25Gig
MyMeg/3G Ten 95% 0.5Gig

All Threshold Notifications will be standard as follows:

“Vodacom Customer Care Announcement: You have so far used xx% of your monthly data bundle. PLEASE NOTE: This information can be up to 3 hours old.” (146 characters)

All Depletion Notifications will be standard as follows:

“Vodacom Customer Care: You have used your monthly data bundle, and can continue at the out of bundle rate. PLEASE NOTE:This information can be up to 3 hours old” (160 characters)

The SMS's are generated from the same data displayed when you visit 4me, i.e. it can be up to 3 hours old. Please keep this in mind, especially for the second SMS.

The SMS's will only be sent between 8AM and 8PM.

As mentioned before, a more real-time system is being developed but this a still a while away.

The lightweight URL is currently under construction.

You will therefore have 3 options to check data usage:

1) 4me 'heavyweight' page - as available today.
2) 4me 'lightweight' page - soon
3) SMS notification - 1st of March

Now THAT'S what I call service! Absolutely and critically vital for an expensive connectivity option - all providers should take note!

they won't take note.... *considering wimax or vodacom 3g*

Vodacom should join Firstrand!!

Where did they come from?

Vodacom is impressing me more and more by the day. If the customer needs something, they seem to take it seriously. I really wish Telkom would be so proactive. I mean, how long did we have to wait for something as simple as being able to change your own password?

Well done Vodacom, you're scoring major points.

From the start Vodacom has been listening to their customers, and they provided solutions within a very short period of time. The other providers should really visit V3G and ask for a few tips! This is great service!

Thanks V3G, the above comments say it all.... (p.s. print and take to your boss)

Just one more thing and then I think we will have mostly it all (besides a REALLY good price), is carry over data.... ???? I know the last time you said not yet, but is it being considered seriously? Close to decisions? I hate the fact that I am loosing 300MB tonight.

Congrats again Vodacom & especially v3G

No news yet on the roll-over but will keep stirring.....

yes, like your free minutes, if vodacom can rollover the amount of unused bandwidth, I'm IMMEDIATLY signing up.

I must say it is quite impressive to see vodacom3g's excellent customer service, it really reflects very well on Vodacom. It can be quite a risk facing public scrutiny out in the open on a public forum, so nice one for taking the leap :)

V3G, sorry about this, but......

Would it be possible to have a setup of the vodacom4me page that allows us to change the number which the message is sent to..... reason being, for those people that do not use the dash for various reasons, will not get the SMS. So I would like to change it to my Vodacom Cellphone, so that I actually get it when I am supposed to...... :D

Seems like the answer it not as simple as we hoped. Due to billing requirements, the MSISDN being billed must be used.

So the short answer is, it'll come to the 3G number for now.

However, the billing guys understand the potential issues around this, such as non-dashboard modems, etc. and are looking into it.

Will keep you updated.

Just thinking in terms of an expanded feature set for this service, eventualy I think Vodacom should look at allowing:
a) specify an email address for notifications
b) send to data card or different cell number
c) be able to set your own notification percentages. eg: 50% would be quite nice to have as well, but some people may prefer 75%. If we can select our own, perhaps up-to 5 different notification percentages, that would be great.
I hope it does not send SMSs at 4am? That may be another option to say, only notify between x and y hours.

The time issue did come up and, once again, had to be a compromise.

Currently the SMS's will only be sent between 8am and 8pm.
