A few months ago the rumours going round suggested that Windows 7 will become available in 2010. Today I look through the newest Dion Wired booklet and on the back page see an advert for Windows 7 being available at the end of this month (July), WTF!
Did they make a mistake or is it really being released at the end of the month? OK here is the proof: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/get
It's getting released on the 22nd October, wonder what Dion wired will have to say about this? All the angry people arriving to collect their copy of widows 7, ROFL!!! :D
Here are photos I just took:

July is RTM (Release to the market) and MS said that it will be available at the end of July when the October 22nd date was announced.
RTM means that MSDN subscribers will be able to download it and certain partners will have access to it, it will not be in retail form.

Is that legal, you no selling free stuff? I mean, won't people be angry when the find out the paid paid over R2000 (that's what I'm guessing it will cost) for something free, and then it is also basically an unfinished product?
I also thought that's maybe what it is but I don't think so, and if it is, Dion is going to have A LOT of angry people on their backs....

Makes sense, but the advert I'm referring to (go look at the photo's) clearly suggests that it will be available to the public in "of the shelf" form. It is a slight possibility that it will be loaded onto new computers, but the advert mentions nothing of the sort, all it says is that Windows 7 will be available at the end of July and then a few features is named, no fine script or anything.

Not possible. You will not be able to go and buy a Windows 7 box. That is probably refering to a new PC, OEM. But yes, it is very early.

You get a free Windows 7 upgrade voucher if you buy a pc/laptop from now until October, maybe Dion Wired misunderstood Microsoft a leetle bit. :)

hmm they could be selling upgrade licenses by the end of July, Newegg were already selling them a few days ago.

Yes possibly, maybe I should just give them a call. If I do I will let you know what they said.
