Im still v. new to ADSL tech as I wait for Telkom to install my line:
Do I need any device to make a call using my ADSL line?
Eg. If I am connected to the net and wanna make a tele call, do I need a special piece of equip to be able 2 make the call?

The ADSL connection is effectively the same as plugging in your ADSL modem into the telephone jack, if you have a spare jack you can just plug the phone into there and use it as per normal, there's no need for any "special equipment" to be able to use the phone simultanously.
However, if you are talking about using Voice over IP (ie. Internet Telephony), then you might want to get Skype (http://www.skype.com) as well as a headset and install it on your PC, then just wait for your ADSL to get connected, and when you're connected you can use that to make calls. However, you won't be able to call normal telephones unless you subscribe to Skype's SkypeOut service, which costs money but I believe is still less expensive than if you were calling local.

Doesn't he mean, that he wants to talk while online?
For that you'll need a filter, which just does that, filters data from voice. They're available for about R40 from any Telkom shop. Put that between your phone socket and phone.

You generally get a filter upon installation for one phone.

they dont supply u with that 1 filter nemore, GG Telkom screw the masses.
when 2 buy a micro filter at telkom rosebank on friday, they didnt have stok so they gave me one from a faulty modem box, the filter was brand new and still sealed and works fine, if u need a filter go to rosebank telshop befor monday....
they dont supply u with that 1 filter nemore, GG Telkom screw the masses. So when you take out the 30 day notice ADSL contract you are denied a measly filtration unit which is required to simultaneously have an ADSL session on the go whilst using the copper line for a simple analog telephone call (in or out). That being the case, why does Telkomonopoly still charge everyone for analog line rental? - I mean they don't supply you with a filtration unit, so why should everyone be forced to either make/receive calls only when disconnected from ADSL, or as is the case with many MyADSL ADSL peeps - don't ever use the line for analog calls...
RPM, how about a polling thread to find out how many MyADSL peeps actually use their Business or Home ADSL lines for making/receiving analog calls (voice, fax etc)...? Perhaps such a poll should approach this from an angle of, would you still want a telephone number allocated to your ADSL line if Telkomonopoly made the analog rental fee non-compulsory...something like that anyways (the reason why polling question & answers need discussion & refinement) :).

I use mine as an analogue backup path and or fax line, but if the line rental was reduced to compensate, I wouldn't miss it.

Don't Telkom supply one filter for each subscribed extension? I got 2 for free and only had to buy one for my DIY extension which Telkom didn't install.
Seems ridiculous that they charge you R400 for installation and your ADSL line won't work if anyone makes a call...

Ok so Im getting a new line with ADSL. Will I get at least one microfilter? For the instrument I might want to connect to the analog line (which I pay for) so that if I need to make a donation to Sizwe's bonus then I should have a choice to do so..
Hi folks
Poll up on the main page...thanks for the idea IC!
