View Full Version : Windows 7 RTM Build 7600 discussion

So I installed Windows 7 RTM build 7600 x64 last night.
After installing, it gave me the good old "30 days to activate" notification.
Went googling for ways to activate it, found one which takes two files from an RC so I just had to put them in the respective windows directories and enter an RC product key.
After doing this though, watermark in the corner appeared saying "Evaluation Copy". Running winver also said my installation would expire in 2010 like the release candidates.
It got rid of the "30 days to activate" and it says its genuine though.
Is this normal? Did i do something wrong?

Thats normal ... there is no full activation crack yet for 7600.

It removes the 30 days.
What I did removes the 30 days too.
Though it suddenly showed up with "Evaluation copy" watermark and the same expiry day as the Release Candidates when run 'winver'.

A Few Hours? Those pirates are damn fast. I've got a copy, but I'm still looking for a good activator before installing it. I'm currently running RC, but theres no use switching from 7100 to 7600 if it still has the same expiry date when patched? Or am I wrong?

Silver the rc and 7600 are different, the RTM to the release to manufacturer.
The ISO coming friday will be the official windows 7 package from microsoft and compiled by them not by the pirates.
Have no idea htf that all works but that is what i have read :D
Basically on friday will be what we get when we buy out copies in October.

@killa is right, the 7600 (384 and 385) was source code leaked that was compiled by the chinese (thats why there are so many stories about infections and injected malware). MS still to release a full ISO - hopefully on friday!

Yes thats true, I read 386 is final but the only changes will be the fancy packaging, a few time stamps and a digital signature or two as for the rest the files are already what you would get in the RTM release.

You could upgrade I guess with the cversion.ini edit.
stroebs
21-07-2009, 05:00 PM
You can upgrade:) I.ve found a sneaky way around it sayingy can't upgrade. Look in the Sources folder on the image for a file called cversion. Open it and change the MinClient value to 7000. Burn the image with the changed cversion.cfg and you can upgrade any version from 7000 upwards. Reminder that this works for all versions of windows 7..

Straight up you can't upgrade. Have to do the work around.
Wzor have released a 7600.16385 but as has been mentioned, I'm waiting for the 24th.
Also as far as activation wise, this works well http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/czdd02q6/Windows7B7264Activator.rar.html

Afaik, there is no activation for RTM as there are no keys. Best you can do for now is use the activator I posted and then use a watermark remover.

Why would you want to do this? :/ It's not a permanent crack and you get the watermark back which is just more trouble. The best you can do is leave the 30 day activation and re-arm it (up to 3 times for 120 days) until there is a proper crack that won't require you to replace the files from the RC, because you'll have to back up the originals and put them back when you use a real crack.
Not nearly worth it for a crack that won't work after July 2010 when the RC expires.
It seems to be running well, but I wouldn't know if there's a back-door or rootkit floating around!
Someone did a pretty extensive test over at sevenforums.com (zidane's 16385 thread) where he checked for background threads and network connections being opened etc as well as AV scanners.

I don't think it will delay it at all, their idea is simply a change to IE, they're offering the ballot screen inside IE. They've also already signed off the final code for Windows 7 so it'll still be October 22nd at the moment.

Sorry to dissapoint all you people - this is how I feel
Yes, it appears that once again Microsoft have completely broken something that was on the verge of working well.
Using Windows 7 is like having a fight with a very aggressive Alligator.
Simple things in Xp, such as assigning IP addresses and sharing files are now a horrific misery that eventually doesn’t work at all across to other platforms.
Well done Microsoft, you’ve made life difficult.
Speaking as someone that does not want , or use all the media / games / home etc etc "improvements"
Feeling like control is taken away from the user and forcing them to work in a certain way -- the MS way.:(
Upon install creates a 100MB partition -- what for
WHAT goes in there and how do you access it's contents
I run a small network using "Netbui" as the protocol to bind MS client and file and printer sharing.
This way I do not have to use Netbios over TCP/IP and expose those dangerous ports to the Internet.
[ How else do you get the Windows "Browsing" service to work if you are not using "Netbios" ( in a small LAN configuration and no Servers and active directory = "WINS") ]
I have no faith in MS firewalls and "Home" network etc etc
I just find their whole setup a case of "our way -- or -- railway" :) and incredibly bloated too.
I would much rather just put on something like a Cisco switch and do configuration on a port by port basis in proper hardware using RFC's
There are no other networking protocols available apart from the MS way of doing TCP/IP
( I am NOT interested in all these "automatic" discovery things -- please -- I do have a brain
-- and would much prefer some PROPER networking tools -- that let YOU take command and see what is going on.)
Tried to install Netbui works fine under XP and a mixed network -- no luck.:( -- with 7
About to wipe scrap and bin ( even if you can get it for "FREE" ) -- back to XP 64 bit.

As for the 100MB partition, it is again taking control away from the advanced users as it messes with the way boot configuration used to work in XP and even in Vista! All the boot config files for detection of OS's is stored in the system reserved partition which has now disabled me from using Wubi! I have tried different HDD's and I get error after error. Sigh... Guess I'll have to put up with it.

-Right-click on the System Reserved volume -> Change Drive letter and paths

Time to get with the times. IP is much more network friendly, no more nasty broadcast storm like you have with netbeui.

If its only a handful of machines its easy enough to set them all up using lmhosts files.
For larger network consider using dymanic dns, or you could even try bonjour.

Sorry to stand on your sand castle , but you are a bit of a late adopter of MS TCP/IP
XENIX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenix) ( Please note NOT XENEX )
Xenix was Microsoft's version of Unix intended for use on microcomputers;
Since Microsoft was not able to license the "UNIX" name itself, they gave it an original name.
The -ix ending follows a convention used by many other Unix-like operating systems.
Microsoft purchased a license for Version 7 Unix from AT&T in 1979,
and announced on August 25, 1980 that it would make it available for the 16-bit microcomputer market.
The initial port of Xenix to the Intel 8086/8088 architecture was performed by The Santa Cruz Operation.
Xenix varied from its 7th Edition origins by incorporating elements from BSD,
and soon (for a time) possessed the most widely installed base of any Unix flavour due to the popularity of the inexpensive x86 processor.
The only thing we learn from MS is that they learn NOTHING from MS ( not even the "X" factor  )

It's called legacy support. When you have hundreds of thousands of customers who require that, you don't just chuck it out.
