Hey guys ....

I am looking for a 42" Panasonic plasma for our games room. Any ideas where I can get one?

I am in the Centurion/Midrand area (Midstream)

Cheers

Yeah, Nashua Electronics was about the only place you can still find them.

But they don't even have Panasonic Plasmas on their website anymore.

Contact one of the listed stores on their website?

http://www.panasonic.co.za/StoresCities.aspx?Region=gp

If Nashua Electronics is the only one in Centurion, maybe try one of the many in Pretoria?

Not sure how correct, but heard from an employee of some audioshop in Jozzie that Panasonic SA went bankrupt.:eek: Panasonic Japan is apparently in the process of taking everything over themselves, which I think would result in us getting all the goodies we were not able to get before. Hoping, hoping...:erm::confused:

Yes. From what I could gather speaking to the okes at Panasonic SA ... it looks like they went under. Panasonic Japan is taking over atm.

They advise that they will be in full operation as of October 2009 ... which in my mind has to be crunch time before the xmas season kicks in.

I have decided to go for the Sammy at Nashua Electronics 42" at R7999.

I would suggest - If you are willing to wait, rather do so as the Panasonic products are kick@ss. They might just bring out some nice specials when they start ops.

I bought a Pioneer in 2005 and it would still kick butt among the new "bigscreens". If I can affort it again I would definately buy one again i.e. before a Sammy or Panasonic (which are in itself 2 goog products), but as said they are more expensive.:o

You heard right, they are the best now that Pioneer are not making plasmas anymore ;)

But do not take my word for it just sniff around on the web a bit and you will soon see how they are rated.

Was just at Audio Vision in Gardens Centre, these are the models they are expecting early September:

TH-P42C10M - 42" HD Ready - R11,999
TH-P42S10M - 42" Full HD - R18,999
TH-P50C10M - 50" HD Ready - R18,999

These seem to be their bottom of the range units :(

This seems to be the pecking order for the 2009 line up:

Panasonic VIERA PLASMA TV

Full-HD
* Z Series: TH-P54Z1
* V Series: TH-P65V10/V11*, TH-P50V10/V11*
* G Series: TH-P42G10/G11*
* S Series: TH-P50S10, TH-P42S10

HDReady
* X Series: TH-P50X10, TH-P42X10
* C Series: TH-P50C10, TH-P42C10

Those higher end units actually cost what those 'bottom' end units cost.
They top at $3K.

Of course in SA, you earn less and the expensive unit you get (R20K is expensive in a recession) is actually the entry-level.

Matshus-hita is also in the red with Plasmas. Lots of lay-offs.

BTW I can imagine what these guys are thinking about Panasonic SA. A friend works for a Tokyo company with a subsidiary in France - they openly say the French branch is lazy, even though he loves Europe (Japanese love Europe).

Panasonic Plasmas are stunning.

I saw their 152" in Vegas in Jan, I am still having withdrawal symptoms...

I've been looking to replace my 50" HD ready plasma, and was interested in the new plasmas been brought in by Audiovision.

Very disappointed that they are not bringing in the 50" S10 range - full HD that retails for ~1050 pounds in the UK. Instead they bring in a HD ready set, and try to flog it for 19K!! Idiots....

The 42" S10 sells for ~700 pounds, or R9200, incl VAT in the UK. Here its double?!!

I'll rather not buy now, then get ripped by these people...as a matter of principle. Pity its so tricky to ship a plasma, as I'd bring it in, like most of the electronics I buy.

Cheers
Ian

Audio Vision are generally expensive, but I've found them to be cheaper than places like Game/Macro when they have old stock sales.

I bought my Series 5 from game for R19,999. Was walking back to the car, went past AV and saw it in the window for R18,999. Went back to Game and got my Price match and 10% back :)

Hi,

That is what I heard from Audio Vision in Waterfront as well...

It is a pitty that they aren't bringing in the higher end models, but when Panasonic distribution is actually back in South Africa, we might see other models. These models are just what Audio Vision have imported in their own container (not through local Panasonic Distribution). It might be a good idea to check that the guarantee is with Panasonic (not just Audio Vision). They might be "grey" items?

I did a bit of research and one of the big downsides of these entry level models is that the don't seem to have the "anti-reflective/anti-glare" glass. So in a bright room, you can get lots of reflections... might not be a big deal if you are used to CRT though (I think CRT is probably the worst for reflections, and I don;t find mine to be a problem). Some people say its no problem... others say they sent the screen back :(

Regards,
Greg

I heard this too. Big drawback especially if you have a window behind you.

I believe Panasonic had trouble with their SA distributors. They are busy signing new contracts. They are expected to start bringing in stuff again +/- Oct. Not Sure.

Heard this through a "friend"
