There seems to be a problem with people using Virginmobile to access the Internet - currently the fix is to set your phone to manual network and register with VodacomSA

Thanks, will try in the morning. The girlfriend's been complaining about it the whole weekend. I basically tried everything (except for the Vodacom thing).

When dealing with things technical you are always going to have problems, otherwise there would be no need for support centres, it is how we find solutions to these problems that matters, sometimes it is easier just to walk away... back-up data, format the hard drive and reload the OS - You have to weigh out do you have the time to try and fix the problem and maybe learn something new, or is it better to be able to give the customer a turnaround deadline
I would be interested to know is there are other people having problems connecting using Virginmobile for the Internet so that I can take the issue up with them further, so far I know of a few people that have a connection problem and the manual setting has sorted it out... BUT that does not really solve the problem, also I am in the fortunate position were I do have other people connecting me and asking what is going on, so that you then know that this is not an isolated problem, how wide spread is it? are people in other provinces getting the same problem, again that is why I would like to hear from people, if you are having a problem accessing the net using your PC and phone / Modem on VM - post here together with were you are JHB - Midrand or whatever
All networks, machines and devices are going to have the odd hiccup so it is a good idea to have at least some sort of plan in place to try and pin point were things are going wrong. It is always a good idea to have Opera Mini loaded on your phone, that way you can always check that the phone is working as it can access the Internet. Then it is a good idea to clear the Cache, history and cookies on the phone, power off the phone and switch it back on again
Getting back the current problem that some people are having not access the net on VM, because you all have different phones I will just give you an outline of what this is. On your phone you will have a menu item for settings, or phone settings... in there will be a Network item, normally it will be set for automatic, you need to change it to Manual, once you do that it will look at what networks are available, takes a minute or so. You then select the Vodacom network and register to it (look on the screen for which button it is) - And that is that
Here is an example of setting the v360
Change to Manual
(searches for networks, and lists Cellc, MTN, VodacomSA)
Select VodacomSA and register
One last tip, and again this applies to any network... it is always a good idea to set your email client to check for emails every five or four minutes, it keeps you active and might stop you from being disconnected by your ISP - Also if you are experience the net doing nothing, check your email by hitting send / receive... is that also not working???

Virgin at the moment is working with HTTP on Mxit and Opera, but can't connect with Socket and I can't browse on the pc.

Always connect with HTTP, less problem prone than a Socket connection for some odd reason.
