Pronutro with loads of milk and tons of sugar before you go to bed. In the morning the same with lots of water. As much as you can drink!

Sorts it out in no time...

THE BEST option is 1 litre of luke warm water with 2 table spoons full of salt and 4 table spoons full of sugar... If you puke it is also good, but if you can keep it in, you should feel 100% in about 45 minutes. It replaces the electrolites and other minerals that get used by the body to save the body from damage by alcohol...

Alcohol is the best cure for hangover though but all it is doing is delaying it

Stop drinking :D

When I was drinking, I found the best cure was to force yourself to eat a big breakfast, no matter how you felt - within reason, if your in such a bad way that your hurling chunks, you should probably be in hospital.

If it's just a head hangover, then a greasy fry-up with plenty of orange is good - avoid coffee at all costs, as your body is already dehydrated and adding a diaretic into the mix isn't a good idea.

If you've also got a stomach over, sorry for you !

But the best thing to do is to analyse why you got a hangover in the first place.
If you stick to the same drink all night, you won't have a bad hangover, but add just one different drink into the mix and your stuffed.

Hey - I'm one month and counting stone cold sober. Best thing I've done in years, don't miss drinking at all + now my lunch/supper bills are 1/10th what they used to be and I don't wake up thinking "Oh my God, what did I say last night ?"

Instead, I wake up thinking "Oh my God, what didn't I say last night ?" :D

Gonna give myself another month of sobriety and take it from there - see how my health checks out.

I'd say that 23 years of drinking is enough for anyone ...

best cure is prevention,
drinking lots of water during the festivities will avoid all problems.
Ofcourse drinking water when your drink is so much more tempting gives rise to a whole different problem... :P
Just be a man and take the pain! lol

I second the 'stop drinking' option.
You're putting a poison into your body - and the after effects are from the poison not
being able to be processed at suitable speeds to be flushed out of your body.
Its a toxic overdose. (Which is misguidedly called 'a hangover'.)

Either you build up a sufficient tolerance to the poison, by using it every day
(and thus risking addiction - alcoholism) or don't touch it in the first place.

And a dependence on alcohol, unlike many other drugs, is doubly difficult to deal with - given that you dont see big signs everywhere saying USE COCAINE! or HEROIN - THE TASTE OF SOUTH AFRICA etc etc

But you DO see them for alcohol.

Alcohol is a drug - and if you use it, and need to use it on every social occasion - you're a drug addict. Sorry, but that's the truth :P

Call me old fashioned, but anything which has such a negative effect from using, just isn't worth it - regardless of the feeling during it, and regardless of the false advertising trying to make you think that this poison is 'acceptable'..

That's about the same as saying that looking at all your TelkoDemonopoly bills, and how bankrupt you are after paying them, will cure a hangover - more likely to drive you to drink again, which now that I think of it will temporarily cure that hangover, looks like GuRu is onto something [maybe force-feed that laxative to the anally-retentive management @ TelkoDemonopoly]...:D

Imagine the loos at Telkom HQ and the strange noises rushing down the hallway if this could happen... Couple that with the grunts and swearing and you can easily have one of the most funny video or audio clips ever should somebody find a way of recording it...

"Ooooh aaaaaah, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr [PLONK PLONK SPURT SPURT SQUIRT]!!!!"

"Toilet paper.... TOILET PAPER!!!! WHO USED UP ALL THE TOILET PAPER??!!!!???"

"Everything" in moderation.

that's it in a nutshell, but it's a hard thing to achieve.

I've gone from drinking too much, to eating too much pasta and chocolate - damn ! :D - at least it costs less.

But like smoking, in my new found sobriety, I ain't gonna chirp on anyones case about it - no point.

I've had many discussions about the pros and cons over the years, usually over a few bottles of wine and have always come back, finally, to the feeling that like much of modern life, drinking is more often than not, rubbish.

A glass of wine or a shot of whiskey once in a while is fine, but the way booze is advertised and how much of modern life seems to revolve around it is often alarming.

The first few glasses are always great - that soft fuzzy feeling, warmth, good humour. It's the ones that follow after that are problematical.

There's a definite truth that booze can loosen up tongues and lead to great conversation, but more often than not the balance is tipped in the favour of more booze and chaos ensues.

Have you ever arrived late for a supper or lunch where everyone is drunk and you are sober ?
It's really very sad to see how drunk people behave.

Then the misconception that great artists are often drinkers - the misconception being that it makes their art better. It doesn't, it just makes them burn faster and thus burn-out. Possibly having such a raging talent leads to the need to temper it.

As for wine, beer or whiskey connoisseurs, I've yet to meet a knowledgable enthusiast who is a big drinker.

Yep, everything in moderation.

Just wondering if the drive-in was Veldskoen? - I did much the same with my circle of friends - we would walk-in [through the broken wall at the back] to Veldskoen drive-in with enough booze to get totally sloshed - helped a lot during winter...:D

Close enough - it was actually The Willows drive-in !

We used to sneak in through the hole in the fence, or occassionaly pay R1 to get it :D

I find this works for me, before going to be about 3 beer glasses of water (cold, hot, tap doesn't matter). each glass should also have in about 3 tea spoons of sugar and a splash of lemon juice. take a panado with the last glass.

take a panado with the last glass.Panado is not a good thing to use for a hangover, paracetamol puts added pressure on your liver.

Honey before you go to bed should, theoretically, help. It has an enzyme (I believe) which metabolises alcohol fast - I've yet to try it. I don't often drink enough to get hangovers regularly, but when I do, believe me, everyone I speak to knows about it!

A really bad hangover will leave me cowering for at least 18 hours after I stopped drinking. I won't be able to keep anything down, not even the tiniest sip of water. This happens about once or twice a year.

Water before you go to bed is the golden rule. If you forget this, or pass out before several glasses of water, then try taking something like Essentiale when you wake up. It's loaded with B-vitamins. Pineapple juice is good too, if your stomach is not too sensitive to the acid.

Tomato juice also works wonders, provided you can keep it down. But sometimes you just have to live with the pain if you dont have any of these quick-fix remedies around! Sleep, warmth, water, and a dark room, and wait it out!

Oh, and plenty of sympathy can sometimes do wonders :)

bb_matt
17-07-2005, 09:44 AM
Oh, and plenty of sympathy can sometimes do wonders :)

That is very unlikely, if your a guy anyway ! :D

Your more likely to get someone saying "Aaah, babalaas eh ?"
Or they'll thump around the room on purpose.

If your at work, you are guaranteed to have a busy day - it's one of those unwritten laws that everyone know exist, but refuse to believe.

Later that afternoon, one of your work colleagues is bound to say, with a grin on their face, "fancy a beer after work ?"

One thing i also do and which does sound odd, is add 2 heaped teaspoons of sugar to my tall glass of whisky and water.. then again I dont drink a lot very often but it does help the whisky taste better. Its also not bad with sprite and the sugar seems to help with the babelas the next day..

Tried that 'Soba' stuff a few years back, looked like mud and tasted evern worse.. :)

each glass should also have in about 3 tea spoons of sugar and a splash of lemon juice. take a panado with the last glass As part of a training course about 8 years ago, I showed people how to pour cocktails and what goes with what and what does not. Then we where surprised and had to do another speech/demo on a topic choosen by the department heads.

I got hangovers. Spoke to quiet a few doctors and did a hell of a lot of reading and as we all know, there basically is no cure other than to not get drunk. Suger however was something that I was told is a very bad idea. Without going into to much details, have a look at the suger molecule and then look at the Alcohol molecule.

Best advice I got from most doctors is drink lots of substances with electrolytes in them, IE: energade. This will allow you to replace the water in your system much quicker than normal and help you to feel better.

From personal experience, KGB does work, if you can remember at 4:00 am in the morning to take the black tablets. But my Fiance made me a "Kombucha tea" concoction and in 10 min I felt 100%, I really am not joking when I say it was one of those days where I felt like drowning myself because I felt so bad, and the handover was gone before I could blink

*You can buy the Kombucha Tea from Clicks for about R15, then add Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley to it, Throw it in the blender and drink.

PS: If anyone knows of somebody who has or would like to sell the "Kombucha Babies" required to make you own tea please let me know ASAP!

water.... alcohol dehydrates you, so if you are in a state to remember have a liter or so of water before you sleep.

Natas
15-12-2006, 08:55 AM
just drink as much water as you can and also take as many vitamin tablets as you can get your hands on. As noswal said...booze dehydrates you, but in doing so it also makes you flush out a lot of electrolytes, ie th the chemicals you need to convey electricla pulses along teh length of your nerves.

Or just a little hair of the dog..i find that works quite well too

I drink lots of water before bed and a bottle of water next to my bed. I did learn a very clever little way of getting over hangovers quickly when my jaw was broken. I have an "Ensure" addiction since my liquid diet days of sucking my meals through a straw. "Ensure" is a meal supliment milkshake and costs around R50 for a tin (I think it is enough for about 9 milkshakes). I find that I am all perky again about half an hour to an hour after a milkshake (Not 100% but not dog turd miserable)

Hair of the dog that bit you the night before. The theory is that it slows down the recovery slightly, and thereby make you feel better for a while.

In reality you will have to deal with the added load later in the day as well.

Drink lots water. When you go to the loo and your pea is yellow then that is a sign of dehydration which is one effect of drinking alcohol.

When I use to drink I put my finger down my throat force everything up, force myself to eat something drink lots of water and then take the headache pills leave out the coke...If you have acid which alchohol normally gives you then take an anti-acid

I've heard coke and aspirin's the best, can't remember why though. :)
Caffeine constricts peripheral blood vessels and mobilises sugar. Coke contains fluid and sugar. Aspirin thins the blood and reduces pain. The combination could potentially reduce pain due to dilated blood vessels, improve blood flow.

Ah, I've got Coke in the fridge & some Nurofens in the cupboard. That appeals more to me than a beer.

Some nutritionist told me that drinking a lot of sugar water the next morning helps, as it replaces the electrolytes stripped away by the alcohol and prevents dehydration. I don't know if he was pulling my leg or telling the truth - I was too drunk to tell at the time :D Come to think of it, why would alchohol remove electrolytes? It is a non-polar substance, after all, isn't it?

I would also like to know....

bwana

I would also like to know....Here are probably the three most common
Aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid (acetosal) is a drug in the family of salicylates, often used as an analgesic (against minor pains and aches), antipyretic (against fever), and anti-inflammatory. It has also an antiplatelet (“blood-thinning”) effect and is used in long-term low-doses to prevent heart attacks and cancer. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspirin)
Ibuprofen (INN) (IPA: [?a?bjuprof?n]) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) originally marketed as Nurofen and since under various trademarks including Act-3, Advil, Brufen, Dorival, Herron Blue, Motrin, Nuprin and Ipren or Ibumetin (Sweden). It is used for relief of symptoms of arthritis, primary dysmenorrhoea, fever, and as an analgesic, especially where there is an inflammatory component. Ibuprofen was developed by the research arm of Boots Group. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibuprofen)And last but not least
Paracetamol (INN) (IPA: [pær??sit?m?l, -mo?l, -?s?t?-]) or acetaminophen (USAN), is a common analgesic and antipyretic drug that is used for the relief of fever, headaches, and other minor aches and pains. Paracetamol is also useful in managing more severe pain, allowing lower dosages of additional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or opioid analgesics to be used, thereby minimizing overall side-effects. It is a major ingredient in numerous cold and flu medications, as well as many prescription analgesics. It is safe for human use in recommended doses, but because of its wide availability, deliberate or accidental overdoses are fairly common. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetaminophen)

Solution to hangover. This is both a cure and a preventative solution depending on when you take it...

To prevent a hangover:

1 big bowl
filled with pronutro
loads of sugar
loads of milk
take before u go 2 bed after heavy drinking

To cure:
Same as above, but morning after.

Remember to eat as much as you can! It takes about an hour for the hangover to subside in my own experience. This is what I do and it works. I cannot promise it will work for everybody, but believe it will. BTW, drink lots of water too...

hmm, after news years eve celebrations (when I found myself in the backseat of my car in my garage with very few memories of the night before) my stomach was so messed up, the thought of drinking water had me in spasms. I managed one sip of water every 10 minutes till around 4pm, when I convinced myself to try a tiny bowl of pronutro, which almost came back up really quickly.
I thought maybe a bit of exercise would help, so I climbed onto the exercise bike, but almost passed out after dawdling on it for 2 minutes. Sometime in the evening I had some chicken with pasta, but it wasn't till Wednesday that I could stomach food without feeling nauseas. The headache lasted till Tuesday morning, despite me tentatively taking a couple of nurofens, which normally make me feel sick as well, as they were the only painkillers at home.

Easily the worst hangover of my life, I swore never to drink again, but that only lasted till Thursday.. :D

a) alcohol is a toxin (poison)
b) your body has a negative effect because the body is unable to efficiently remove all the toxic material - it uses up water in you, to flush the toxins.
c) drinking water during and after alchohol sessions, provides the flushing mechanism your body needs.
d) Coke believe it or not, does have electrolytes (as well as sugar and caffeine)
e) Grandpa headache powders contain a whack of raw caffeine, and paracetamol. So Coke+2 grandpa powders, is a good first step, followed by lots of water.

I tend to find that very greasy foods, are a useful thing for removing the damage.. anything from fried eggs, to slap chips, to pastry (pies) along with the coke & grandpa's..

And just to be scary, I dont remember when I actually drank alcohol last.. too much negative result for not enough fun..

I find lots of OJ and constant work prevents the hang-over. Problem comes when i go home to relax... but hey, nothing like a good hangover to keep the excessive boozing away for at least a few days
FYI: Cane Train is EVIL....

Edit: And if you still drunk the next day and feeling very ill, nothing sorts you out better than a trip to the bathroom and a finger down ye ole throat.

As much water as you can handle before you go to sleep is the only way I have avoided a hangover. It works like a charm every time. I have tried some really dodgy stuff the morning after if I "forget" the water trick and the only affective method has been orange juice and a fry up.

None as far as i know. I figured out something quite interesting. I have low-

blood suger. What happens now is, everybody that goes on a drinking spree

experience a rise in blood sugar, thats why we're so active after a couple of

beers. 10 to 1 ill drink the majority of ppl on this site under the table.

Reason? When my sugar level reaches lets say level X, your suger level will

be much higher. When you pass out ill still be standing, BUT, this is where

the good stops. The next day after both our suger levels has dropped, mine

will be lower than yours meaning ill be a total WRECK! No mates, in all my

years of drinking ive never actually found a geniune CURE!..You have to

suffer it out :(

Wow this is an old thread! but Alcohol stays in your system much longer than the sugar.

On a molocular level, they are pretty much the same. Alcohol: C2H6O and Sugar: C6H12 O6, With sugar being more complicated of course.

When you start drinking, Your body tries to get rid of them both as quickly as possible. Now the thyroid gland controls the rate at which the blood sugar is burned and the pancreas controls the blood sugar level by secretion of insulin or glucagon.

Most alcohol is broken down, or metabolised, by an enzyme in your liver cells known as alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH). ADH breaks down alcohol into acetaldehyde, and then another enzyme, aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), rapidly breaks down acetaldehyde into acetate. The acetate is further metabolised, and eventually leaves your body as carbon dioxide and water.

Problem is your body likes handling and breaking down sugar as it is a natural substance known to it. So especially if you have low blood sugar, your liver will start to break that down fast and quickly and then store it for use later in the liver. Breaking sugar down requires water, and lots of it. So you end up drinking more because your thristy. But what about the Alcohol? Well it just gets passed back to the blood stream to be broken down later when your liver is happy with the sugar levels, so you get drunker and drunker. When you body finally does start to break down the Alcohol, it again needs water but at this time you have usually passed out or are sleeping. Since you have stopped drinking liquids, your body removes the water from itself in order to break it down, It gets this from your brain and from your muscles.

This is pretty much why you have a headache the next morning and feel like you have been put through a meat blender. This is why the drink water before you go to sleep and take a painkiller thing usually works the best, Because you have added water required for the process and the painkiller takes away the headache and sore muscles for a little while when you wake up.

Until we are able to get the liver to break down the alcohol first, we will always have hangovers, and is also why people who drink alcholol with water instead of soda's like coke, generally feel better in the morning than others as well.

Has any one mentioned lots lots lots of water.
As you all know, alcohol dehydrates your body, that is why you get drunk and eventually a "hangover".

Okay guys just learned this in class. The definitive Rehydration therapy aka anti-hangover medicine:

It's called an ORT (Oral Rehydration Therapy)
it involves you repeatedly drinking a solution of 6 spoons sugar 1 spoon salt mixed in water.
It rehydrates you very quickly and works waaay better than just plain water ;)

3 Ponado's and 2 big glasses right before going to bed. As much water as you can stomach during the night if you wake up.

Next morning, something very greasy, I prefer a double bacon and cheese burger form wimpy with a lot of cream soda

You'll just slow the process down and it will come back later. You more than likely still have alcohol in your system and you want it out. Sugar will keep it there.

I also see it hasn't been mentioned yet in 3 years of this thread :) , Mac Nab tablets help a bit for that "I dont want to move today" feeling. Kombucha tea as well if you can ever find it.

Yes, if done in that order. It's works like that other stuff that saves your liver I guess... can't remember it's name right now.

But the best way to not have a big hangover is drink water during drinks... hangovers are from dehydration and loss of certain minerals and vitamins in your system.

I read that that was very dangerous and can cause severe damage.

I usually drink lots of water during drinking and afterwards and I read that before drinking you should have a glass of milk to line your stomach.

well, I think the after taste in the morning would put you off Banana for years... Um, Pooky, if you don't want to have a hangover but you wanna still "have a good time" then try these:
1)Don't drink to much, just about 3 beers an hour

2)Drink LOADS of water, I mean, over the period of drinking alcohol, have about 1 L per hour

3)Try other narcotics, aka cocaine, weed, tik etc.

4)Find a women to make the night fun

5) take the good with the bad... so take the hangover like a man and just bear through it

if you do many things will happen, and none are what you would desire such as:
A) they may cancel each other out because some are uppers and some are downers, just like if you have cocaine and drug alcohol you normalize (but your balance is still f'd up, but your brain normalizes)

B) if you took all those drugs you would OD, my friend took tik, weed and i think speed all in lower doses then what is needed for a full trip and still OD.

C)where the fusk are you gonna get the money???

Pooky, maybe you should try shrooms. they have no health risks and are a real joll if you do them with some mates :).

1) reasonable
2) have you not heard of water poisoning? Consuming a litre of water every hour would be dangerous. http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Water+poisoning
3) telling anyone to go buy some tik or cocaine is just ridiculous not to mention destructive.
4) drunken sex is just gross (then again i'm female so most men probably wouldn't have a problem with this)
