Is there anyone out there as frustrated as I am?
I upgraded my contract 4 weeks ago and Vodacom "still cannot advise when stock will be avaialble". Shocking

Same here, no ETA from cellucity...

There are plenty of you out there in the same boat. Don't know if it's Apple for Vodacom fault for the delay - all I know it's unacceptable.
There's a few people that have just gone the BB route cos they refused to wait for the 3Gs. All I can say is rather be a little patient than go the BB route ;)

have a look at "iphone" on hellopeter - there are so many frustrated people and Vodacom has such a bad attitude. Interestingly enough, its the same copy and paste answer to all the complaints.

Hello guys. It is the supplier that is unable to confirm a ETA for Vodacom. It would be in Vodacom and the dealers best interest to get these phones into stock for a few reasons....sign new contracts, and also to upgrade people and have them extend their contracts. Unfortunately, if the supplier is unable to supply or confirm a ETA, then there is not much we can do.
@ limnos....is there a particular reason why you do not like the Blackberry as a substitute?

Do you guys actually pay for the new phone without having it?
boydan
14-09-2009, 02:08 PM
@FaNIX - yes - bacause you do the upgrade deal and are told the phone will be available within 4-5 days - i would never have anticipated waiting this long - and they continue to advertise it

14-09-2009, 02:20 PM
damm, that really sucks... I would demand that vodacom reverse that transaction and only upgrade when the phone is actually in stock. now you pay more for your contract and you dont even have the phone... that sucks !

Hi guys,
I'm also frustrated.
Is there anybody out there that has been on a Vodacom waiting list for the same time as Boydana and projectmushroom?
I can't understand why Apple can't send out some details on when the shortage will be addressed...
just for your guys info, apple/core doesnt import the phones, vodacom does on their own.
CharlC

just for your guys info, apple/core doesnt import the phones, vodacom does on their own.
@dhez: Sure, I get that. But the whole world (excl US) is experiencing a shortage. So you can't blame Vodacom if they don't have stock. Apple can't supply...
boydan
14-09-2009, 04:26 PM
@CharlC - thing is, in most other places in the world, the operators tell you there is a shortage before you sign up. They also have far better public information. On Vodacoms site there is no mention of stock shortages - its as it has been from when the phone first launched.
CharlC
14-09-2009, 04:30 PM
Yeah that's true. The guy from Vodacom did tell me that there is a shortage and they don't have any idea when they will receive the stock. But I see what you're saying about the website not being updated.
I read somewhere that the shortage should be addressed in September, but there doesn't seem to be any improvement.

I am not sure where you guys have been doing your upgrades...but to process a upgrade we have to enter the IMEI number of the handset/s that is being supplied. Without the IMEI you cant process the upgrade and therefore your contract will not be extended. If you did not sign a upgrade quote then you need not worry. I realize this is a headsore for clients...but trust me....it is even a bigger headsore for the consultants and dealer owners that cant sign up potential new clients because of the stock shortage.

I have the same problem, I have had the same number via work for the past 10 years, I am leaving and need a new number. I ordered the 3GS 2 weeks ago and still no ETA. Even worse is the fact that I cannot even get a new number as the phone has to be linked with the Phone's IMEI, now that is crap, I may just have to get a BB or an N97 just because there is no stock. i chatted to the guys at Vodaworld and they have 2 x N97'swaiting ...

@ocleroux - my upgrade was done through the call centre - 1959. I have several sms messages from vodacom saying i have been upgraded and my packaged changed. Vodacom4me confirms this. Plus, i m apaying for an iPhone 500 contract (my previous contract was a Blackberry contract). No question that I have been upgraded - IMEI number or not

Nashua mobile told me today I'm around 400 in the queue :( Been waiting 4 weeks now. They also said their last shipment only brought in 50 iphones, and that was awhile ago. Hard to blame Nashua/Vodacom since its a world wide shortage, altho a heads up would have been nice. Guess I'll be waiting awhile...

I doubt that, just think there is a real shortage worldwide & South Africa never makes it to the top of the list.
I got my iPhone 3G last year on the day Vodacom launched it in South Africa.....will never forget it. I was worried about my own personal safety when I walked out the shop with my brand new iPhone and ques of people staring at me with hate in their eyes. Felt great! :)

I would have thought that that the ethical annd correct thing to do in the case, considering who Voadcom is, is to have an update or status window on their website - not too much to ask. Their attitude stinks though. Their way or F.O.

Have you paid for the phone yet? I want to get one, have to get it on a new contract in October (wife's moving from CellC to VC). But I will only have the bucks a bit later than October. So maybe I can order it, and save up a bit more? Or pay the 50% on new contract and the balance on collection? What did you do?

just to put my two cents in:
I'm getting my iphone through my work, which has required me to move over to Nashua Mobile from Cellucity.
I placed my order on 20 August - nothing as yet. They haven't told me what number I am in the queue, but they did say that Nashua get their units from Vodacom, so it seems like they kinda get whatever's left after Vodacom's direct sales have had their fill...hence maybe the 50 units a pop referred to above? :(

I can tell you i have had both (BB and iPhone 3G)- if you are going onto BB BIS, wait for iPhone - its 100 times more user friendly and efficient - you can sync contacts, calendars and all mail (including subfolders with the iPhone but only your exchnage inbox on BB BIS. BES is a different story, but has other pitfalls. Thats why I'm waiting for the 3GS - just sick and tired of no info and feeble excuses.

Well I am stopping off in Dubai tonight on my way to India for a week, i am going to see what the prices are like in both countries and take it from there ....

Thanks. Why is software unlock not recommended?
Software unlock is not recommended as:
- You can't update as soon as firmwares are released. Have to wait for unlock software to be released with every firmware. If you do you run the risk of being locked again until the unlock tool comes out..
-Push does not work at all on software unlocked phones (they are trying to fix it but no solution as of yet)
and more that i can't think of right now.

I am getting a 32gig iPhone on a company contract, and a few weeks back I took the proactive step of calling around to find one. I found one at Cellucity in Strand street and popped over to pick it up - I even got the HR lady here to fax through a signed upgrade confirmation letter on a letterhead and a certified copy of my bosses ID (required for an upgrade) - but when I got there they told me I needed to have my bosses original ID with me (not gonna happen obviously), so I let it go and decided to wait for Vodacom to deliver it to the offices instead. I'll probably regret that decision now... Wonder how long I'll have to wait... I cant believe I had one in my hands and walked away... Stupid.

Question for you iPhone users....(This might be slightly off topic)
I am planning on getting one next month. The problem is that I have a fairly old dsl-modem-wifi-router at home. I set it to bridged mode so that I can use RouteSentry with two PPPoE connections. Now apparently the iPhone doesnt support PPPoE. Also, my modem doesn't take a default username and password if I have it in bridged mode. I guess this means new modem-router for me.
Which Router do you use that does allow you to set a default connection(for non PPPoE devices) AND allows PPPoE?
I hope I stated my problem clear? :)

well...got this from Nashua rep (cape town) yesterday:
Good morning
Unfortunaltey we have not received any news of when the phones will be arriving.
We have however received this last correspondence from our procurement office.
I sincerely wish we were in a position to solve this immediately. We are continuously in touch with the overseas supplier and Vodacom who are the supplier to Nashua Mobile.
Vodacom are having major battles with the overseas supplier and a lot of deals have been done already on this handset. The overseas supplier are experiencing manufacturer constraints and are struggling to keep up with the manufacturing of this handset. As soon as they have fulfilled orders in their market, South Africa will receive their stock.
Please know that this issue is being addressed at the highest level at Vodacom.
As you can see from the mail, our recourses are doing everything possible to get the phones to us.
Will let you know as soon as we have received any further feedback.

Hi there.
So how the hell do you get a 3gs from voda? I've got an application in with a cellucity at the moment(already submitted on the 14th of August) and every bloody voda store I go to enquire wants me to fill out a new contract application form saying thats the only way they will hold a phone if one is available.
I'm really at my wits end as to getting this phone :/ Thinking maybe the HTC hero might be a better deal at the moment.
