Okay, I've searched the forum for some info on these elusive devices, but haven't come up with many answers yet. Someone referenced having bought one at a Vodacom shop for about R250.00
I just went to visit my local Vodashop at Clearwater Mall, and the guy over there sent me to Incredible Connection instead. At Incredible Corruption the salesman took a long time to understand what I was looking for, and then solemnly told me that it "hasn't been invented yet". ARGH!
PLEASE can somebody let me know where I can REALLY find one of these adaptors, and more or less how mush it costs. I know they've been "invented", and I know they're available in SA. But where and at what price, still eludes me!

I bought mine at the Vodashop in Stellenbosch for R259. What you probably should do is go to the shop with this product code:
V3GPCADAPT -- PC ADAPTOR 3G DATA CARDS
Or go to this thread for more specifics :

PS Vodashop didn't have stock, they had to order it. They didn't have a clue what it was [and didn't even know what it was when i came to pick it up]. So the product code is your ticket.

So, after my recent questions regarding PC adaptors for the 3G card, I visited my local retail outlet. As V3G suggested, I asked them nicely if they could order me the thingy, using the product code supplied. They told me it would take a couple of days, which was fine by me.
On the way out of Northgate Shopping Centre (on Jo'burg's West Rand) I passed by another Vodacom retailer, and even though I've never been in the store, decided to check if they had stock.
Lo and behold! They had some in stock, which was just grand. Until we got to the cash register, where the price came up as R350.00 (incl. VAT). I promptly pulled out a printout from this very forum, and showed them that the recommended retail price is under R300.00. After some humming and ha-ing, they let me have the adaptor for R299.00. JUST under R300.00 but better than the R350.00 they wanted at first.
I've now installed the thing on my desktop, and it all works perfectly. I noticed that the install CD was labelled 4.02.0006 Elan - which is different from the standard CD received with the 3G card. But I didn't notice anything different during the install procedure...

RRP is R259. Won't you PM the shop name that tried to charge you R350?
The CD you got is the latest dash, the same one you can download.

You know, I hate salesman. Shopping for home theatres, DVD recorders, computer peripherals or anything technical is a nightmare. They often have no idea what they're talking about, yet they say it!
I remember going into Incredible Connection about 3 years back looking for the same adapater (which wasn't as well known as now). The same thing happened and the salesman told me they didn't exist. I tried telling him that I'm using one now in my desktop, and I just require a 2nd one. Again, he told me that they didn't exist. I tried a little harder to make him understand that I WAS USING ONE. He simply raised his voice, and implied I was lying ....
I also remember buying DSTV slighly after the launch of DMX Audio. The salesman told me within a year, they'd have a facility to select the song title on the screen. I admit I didn't think too far, as I did think he was telling the truth ;) But 7 years on there is no such feature ...
Idiots!
