I've finally got some good news :D Im downloading a file (125 mb) getiting a speed of 30-35 kb/s - dont know if bigger files are still gonna be slow? Like the 1gig files were earlier - but this is good :) hope it keeps up

If you do in fact have a learning disability of sorts you'd do well to change your post intro to perhaps point this out in a more polite manner or state a much in your signature. Your current intro is not going to endear many people to you.

Bud, if you at least use a browser like Firefox it kinda highlights some of the errors, click on them and viola, fixed. I don't know the other browsers well enough to comment but people are not attacking your condition, they're merely pointing out that if you wanted to make a little effort, you could spell the words correctly. :)

I have always preferred news servers. Not big on uploading as it is more of a "crime".... will check out bitthief though.

Depends on the server you use, really. Some are free, some are not. There's not a real fixed cost that can be taken as gospel and applies across the board. If you read through the list (and there are more such lists out there) you will find a variety of servers you can choose from. Some may even carry the information you want to see. I don't use all that much international. I would if I had it but I get by fine with 5 gigs a month!

Getting full speed on Astraweb, but can't download email-attachments (currently 5 bytes/sec!?!) on gmail. Torrent speeds also VERY slow.
If there's no improvement by friday, it'll be bye bye Screamer. :mad:

Well I still say, give them this week, if by Friday it has not been sorted, so be it then! I have a good feeling about Screamer, lets hope they dont let us down!

I no longer have such a good feeling...I really wanted to believe that we will truly see a world class ADSL offering, if not at world class speed, at least the rest then, good price, uncapped, consistent speed...
However, this is not better, this is worst. Howzit have also gone silent...I have always believed, if you have a problem, be transparent about it. Give feed back and progress reports.
If you feel you customers are unrealistic with their requirements, be honest enough to say so...
I hope that Digichilli fare better at launch. At least they had the decency to admit that they will need a couple of days to get this stable, hence those days will be free. I think that is what ultimately bugs me most. I am paying R180 for a service that is unstable and slow.

I sometimes get good speeds runing up to 30 - 35 kb/s, but that is a very rare treat. The average speeds I get is like 4 - 5 kb/s which is so frustrating. On my NOW CANCELLED Openweb acc and the free WebAfrica trial acc I run at speeds as fast as 42kb/s.
I'm with all the other guys, If things don't get better I'm outa here.
I believe the deal was that Howzit will dance in a tutu on youtube if they don't get all this nonsense sorted...... no one using screamer will be able to witness it because we can't open web pages most of the time and when we can it's just so unbearably SLOW!!!!!

If you are connecting on anything else but a 4Mb connection your speeds should have stabilised and improved after about 21h00 tonight. If you are still getting low speeds please let me know what time of the day or night it is.
I am hoping I can put my tutu back in the cupboard soon.

Are you using more than one ISP's? Just try a couple of times to log in. Did your service get better after 21:00?

MTN is the only local Telco that we are waiting to register our IP range before we can remove NAT'ing but this does not affect 99% of our clients who should all be experiencing good performance.
From those that we have contacted they are happy and I hope that we get some posts here confirming that.

Care to tell use what you have done to address the problems? What the cause of the problem was?
Can I also ask, is this from this point forward that we should evaluate your service for the level that we should expect as "normal" Screamer performance?

Did a quick test this morning (only about 30 minutes of testing before I left for the office), and all the sites I visited opened up without an issue. Ok also have to say, this was between 6 am and 7 am, don't think a lot of people are surfing at that time.
When I left my connection to astraweb, was moving between 29kb/s and 41kb/s
I'll do some more testing tonight when I get home

Well all the sites I am visiting are loading fine without any issues, not downloading anything currently, previously the news server was running fine, like I said, between 29kbs and 41 kbs

I'm on telkom local only. I had similar problems last night.
I could not connect to anything this morning.
I had to go to 10.0.0.2 and enter my username and password again.
Now it works.
Wonder how many problems that are thought to be from an ISP, are actually caused by telkom, when the person's lines are still with telkom.

Guys I have to make an apology with regards to my AUTH failing, it seems that the debit order for my account bounced, I thought it was supposed to go through at the end of the month, my mistake!

If you are connecting on anything else but a 4Mb connection your speeds should have stabilised and improved after about 21h00 tonight. If you are still getting low speeds please let me know what time of the day or night it is.
I am hoping I can put my tutu back in the cupboard soon.
Speeds are alot better, but not all that consistant. it's 20:17 now and I'm getting a good 34kb/s earlier at around 17:30 or 18:00 I had speeds of around 15 -20 kb/s..... things seem like it might be getting better

I have similar results atm. Was very happy to see full speed when I got home. Unfortunately it did not last it seem.
Will see what I manage through the night, but I have a fair mind to cancel anyway.
My web surfing experience is most important. If that is not on par then the service service is pretty pointless for me. The downloads is just on top of the rest in idle time.

Would love to see a couple more of these, Just did the same speed tests with my afrihost account and got identical results to jberg, but full speed as well to NY, NY. Anyone getting full speed to the states where a lot of the servers we use are located? Would like to make the switch to screamer soon as my bandwidth is almost out, but no point if international access is slower.

It saddens me to report that the phenomenon of the "Flying News Server" no longer exists - Screamer now downloading at the slowest speeds I've seen all week. They probably saw that someone is getting value for money and put an end to it…

Me too, I came I saw, I am back to buying gigs then. In the end it just did not make sense. I would love to be free of caps, but the speed is the bummer in the end. I rather use less internet and have a great experience, even if it is slow at 384, that unlimited at slow and unreliable speeds.
I do salute them for trying something new and different. Their is a demand for it. Hopefully in time more such services will see the light of day.
I will keep my account till the end of the month, and I will check back on them in time and re-evaluate.

So to tell her :" Honey, I just saved us roughly R500 a month", that might help me get a ps3 slim.....so see it all works with a plan.

So this morning he sends me an email back : "Dankie vir die log in van daai dail-up connection" basically summing up his experience thus far.
Fortunately for me, I cancelled for December, only have this month running then I am in the clear.
Not worth the additional aggro.

MTN are not a provider to Screamer, I just think they're not accepting their prefix advertisements due to ASN4 issues, this will only affect traffic going between the MTN and Screamer networks.
Scremer to anywhere else won't be affected by this.

Well man they have till Friday, lets give them till then to sort out their networking issues. Although I have to admit, things feel unstable at the moment, speed and responsiveness really don't reflect that of other wired connection ISP's at all, you guys sure that NAT (only) could be the reason for the performance at the moment, im saying in terms of simple port 80 traffic, not even torrents, because we know the NATting affects that.

still getting crap speeds. I qeued a list of things to download this morning and got home to find that almost nothing happened???? I'm canceling and I'm not giving a months notice. I signed up for uncapped broadband with no throtteling or any strings attached.... Screamer is not keeping to their side of the contract and neither will I. If no improvements by friday, screamer can expect a cancellation email and a dispute on their debit order. I'm fed up!!!!!!

I phoned them and told them that these details are not working, to which I was asked if the debit order went off my bank acc, it didn't and the person advised me that the acc is not activated because they did not receive payment. Phoned back again.... this guy told me he will need to log the call and get back to me in 30 min..... 2 hours later nothing.... I sent an email... thats when a guy named john got back telephonically to tell me that because of the 2 acc details sent to me that there was a conflict on my acc on their side and he fixed it confirming it with an email to me misspelling my name in the email:mad: I tried the acc and got speeds of less than 4kb/s. I replied to John's email to find out why the speeds are so crap and I haven't received an email back yet. My experience says service is bad and will stay bad

On my side everything worked well for a week since i joined, yes I joined screamer last week Wednesday. Anyhow I started getting problems yesterday, my downloads was normally at abt 35-45KB/s now its around 14-20KB/s and it keeps on disconnecting from the moreleta tower. Any idea why howzit?

OK this probably has got nothing to do with screamer, but since I noticed the issues with screamer on my side, speed degrading I have also noticed now that on neotel prime where I always get 200KB/s plus its now down to a mere 32KB/s.

Cant compare my wireless link to the ADSL ones I suppose, but up to yesterday afternoon it was flying between 35KB/s and 48KB/s then it dropped to the 20KB/s range. Hope it looks better when I get home. I might even consider the 512kbps package if screamer improves.

This is at my business premises, so its R399 for screamer, R152 for ADSL line, R174 for Business line. So total is R752 Vat incl. The router was purchased about a year ago, just never used it, I'm sure it was about R750.

After reading all the comments on all the Screamer ADSL threads it is obvious that the only people complaining are those that are using torrents.
Maybe Screamer is restricting all the bandwidth abusers so that all their other customers have a good experience??

Same went for HTTP downloads earlier, went from 40KB/s down to 10-20KB/s. Does not matter if you download from local or international, it was 20KB/s. But according to my wife it did 50KB/s earlier, will see tonight.

I typed in the username and password.. connected to the internet and clicked the button to test the download speed...
all I can say is.. their name is fitting.. I wanted to scream alright.. a whole 6kb/s.. so I thought... maybe theres something wrong with my line.. so I dialed in with me old account and was getting the speed I should have gotten.
I am so disappointed with the service.

Think it has to do with contention ratios, they are struggling with all the connections on their NAT tables, that is why its slowing to a crawl in the evenings, boy i hope the public ips will alleviate this.

I have since signed with Afrihost, what a difference they try and reply to all on-line questions within 57 minutes. Most of my questions were answered within a minute. Signing up was a pleasure, they had me connected within 10 minutes even at 21h00. I have a 4 Mbps line and my average speed is about 3 Mbps.
Screamer should stop signing all new acc until they have a decent a reliable infrastructure.

So I ran the last 16 hours down loading various torrents. I Got 1.3gig down which equates to about 87mb an hour, or you can say an average of 24kbs. The http downloads are a problem, They time out. Plus there were regular intervals where it seemed like there was just no connectivity.
With DigiChilli's new R300 uncapped option, and a guaranteed 256 minimum speed burstable to 512, looks much more enticing.
But the moral of this story is I only used to get a combined up & down of about 10 gig with Iburst. I'll do that now in less than 8 days!
At this type of constant speed, I should make about 60gig a month.... I think that is more than enough!
With DigiChilli's new R300 uncapped option, and a guaranteed 256 minimum speed burstable to 512, looks much more enticing.
But the moral of this story is I only used to get a combined up & down of about 10 gig with Iburst. I'll do that now in less than 8 days!
At this type of constant speed, I should make about 60gig a month.... I think that is more than enough!

Yes, the tutu side will be the funny side of this, but will be much more serious for screamer. If they have not sorted out their issues, as publicly stated by today, a lot of people are going to cancel, and those people(like me) waiting for a confirmation that the service is good to sign up, will just move away, to the next ISP

I also want to try the digichilli one, but they are still running trails. I tried to mail them to find out how long , but they don't return any emails. Phoned and a lady told me they are busy with trails and they will let us know when we can sign up.
So my only worry is...they are currently running trails, meaning only a fixed number of users, what if they open up and there are also contention issues.
But definitely want to try their R300 offer, I only need one connection

This reminds me so much of the time before black october in 2005. Everyone was buying bandwitch, think back then it was something like R299 for 20 gig through axxess. Till telkom decided "STUFF YOU", and changed their billing.
So I still have this nagging feeling that all this "uncapped" might come crashing down (its the cynic in me)

Media Fire is the only way to download....speeds are good and no time outs......all the rest like Rapid Share and Hotfile etc are a night mare they time out every time......

Checked my news server last night, and it was purring along at a healthy speed, if only they can get some public ips so that I can access my email, and tune the http downloads then I'll be a happy camper

Depends: I'm sure my torrent trackers are international and I get max speeds there, but int. websites are slow... Have been battling with my astraweb the last few days 'cuz I cant find a decent News Leecher that allows for free news-searches.... What do you suggest I use?

I cancelled my account yesterday, due to the fact that I would be away the bulk of December and January for holiday.
Despite all my ramblings I thought I stick it out with them till the end of the month in the hope that they will make good on their promise of better service. However, despite emails to the contrary, they have cancelled my account with immediate effect, leaving me with no internet connectivity last night.
Screamer, you represent everything that is wrong with the South African broadband market. It is full with either ISP's charging an arm and a leg, but have descend service and support. I am looking at you, all the old entrenched players...or the upstarts, that promises the world, have an innovative idea, but its backend runs on a shoe box, because they did not take the time to test, implement their systems. When they get swamped by hungry customers, they crash and burn.
I actually don't know what is worst...
Anyway, I told Michelle that I wish them well, I am regretting that now. Please enjoy the R180, it worked out to R18 per gigabyte, so I should actually not complain, yes?

Well you can try nzbmatrix, they are free (kinda), and is an excellent nzb host. I use super searcher from newsleecher myself and use altbinz on astra to download, currently with screamer its moving at between 36 - 40kbs. The same as with chilli, the browsing is a bit on the wonky side for international
