I'm trying to figure out what is the best phone to access work e-mail?
I started by looking at the top of the range Nokia E-series
I could not get clarity from anyone as to how you access your work e-mail. First i thought you access through your browser, then I was told that it has an "outlook" equivalent.
Then I looked the Blackerry range, really amazing phones, oly problem is that our work e-mail server does not suport BB.
Then I looked at the iPhone which is a good possbility, but Vodacom wants a pay in of R2500 on a Topup R315
Now I'm back to the Nokia E55, but was just told by Vodacare that it is not available yet and not sure when it will be available.
All I need is a reliable method of accessing mails when I'm out of the office. Also would like to have the option of being able to open a word or PDF file at times.
I have a cellphone limit of R500 and want to use it wisely but struggling to make a decision.
Any input would be appreciated :-(

I think blackberry works if you have OWA on your mail server.

I have four models off the top of my head - E52, E55, E71 and E75. Pity they don't stock the E51 anymore.
There is an free Nokia application called "Mail for Exchange" that you have to install separately for you to get your work e-mail. You will be able to open Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF files natively on the E-series phones, but in read-only mode.

Go BB its the only way:-)
Dont forget that with a BB BIS contract for R59.00 you get UNLIMITED bandwidth, so youu wont pay extra for all the mails and attachments you download to your BB. This has to be a huge deciding factor! Also you can setup POP mail accounts on the BB you dont have to be with a conpany that has BES!

My experience. Exchange 2000/2003 and HTC (one with full keyboard slidy outy thing), nokia e71 and now iPhone. Works great, email, calendar and contacts. The best of the lot was the HTC. Win mobile FTW! For what you want anyways. :o

Don't be so sure that BB wouldn't work, make 100% sure before you write it off. That IS your best option, 9000's the best and you can split the pay in over 24 months on a Top Up 315.

Even if you cant there are other ways such as forwarding to a second email account.
You get unparalleled email and messaging as well as unlimited on device browsing for r59pm (some contracts include this as well as the 8520 for r140pm). In SA that's the best deal you're likely to get.

Its highly unlikely that you can't get a Blackberry to work for you. There is nothing that comes close to Blackberry.

Blackberry !!! They are the best. Went from Nokia to htc the to blackberry. Nokia/htc/iphones are Toys :) blackberries are work horses and you won't regret it.
There is a couple of us that can and you can always get your company to install the free bes as well, doesn't cost a cent extra :)

If you don't have a BES server then it limits your mailbox functionality especially with things like calendars and having to read emails twice because the 2 mailboxes don't synchronise.
With phones that support Active sync like Nokia and WM phones you don't have these problems.

I do have one bit of advice tho. Don't do it. I found when I had mz email on my phone I was ALWAYS checking it. I would wake up in the morning and before I even got out of bed I would check my mail. I found myself sitting on the cr@pper and emailing people. It consumes your life!!!! Don't do it!!! :o
