You know, kinda like that idea that keeps getting mailed around about not buying petrol on a certain day. How would this sort of strategy affect Telkom (and ultimately the consumers)?

telkom prob makes most of their $$$ from bussinesses, and no bussiness will not make a phone call on one day just to "get back" at telkom.

i think it is a great idea though and if enough ppl participate, it should get some media attention and hopefully get the goverment to do something about the situation. i think it is worth a try... give me a date and I'll spread the word among family, friends & co-workers.

Easiest way to nail Telkom is to switch to one of the other new networks and use Voip. Same effect as not using a landline. Business will also go for this. Sooner or later the backbones of these networks won't go through a single Telkom link.

Well I suspect that people would still be using their cellery phones on that day, and since most costs still trace back to Telkomonopoly it is likely they'd profit even more due to switching/interconnect fees...:(

you're probably right. maybe we should just have a day where we use both as little as possible? surely that would have an effect? i'm just wondering whether it would be positive or negative.

Ja around 70% comes from biz and gov.

One day of no calls would be worth around R15 million as that's about what they make per day in profit.

I'd ask noone what the hell he was doing in my house, uninvited, using my bloody landline, that's what !
