so will a new number be someting like 0781 455 4455 or is it more like 078 155 4455 ???
Because if its the last one it will be stupid not to give them the whole 078 range.

I think it's the whole 078 range, several months back Vodacom started using 076 (I should know, I literally see millions of recharges and starter packs that have been sold's data)

its like 0781 455 4455, so the numbers are now 11 digit...I got an sms from one of those new vodacom no's and it was 11 digit..

Thanks, Brooko. My understanding was 0781 and 0782 was MTN's new range from ICASA.

No, the numbers will go like 078 123 4567 and 078 212 3456.

Sorry brooko but that's not right. A normal customer 076 number contains ten digits.. CUSTOMER NUMBER being a number that isn't used for any specific service cause sometimes they have WAY more digits (I'm sucking this out my thumb for the record). Anywho, I remember reading over december (or some time around them) that VodaCom have been granted 0761 and 0762 I think it was but dunno if they've gotten more possibly... anyone else have something to add to this? ;)

I agree only 10 digits. I have an 076 number and it is 076 xxx xxxx
As stated, the first x=1 or x=2 ICASA are keeping the rest for now I would guess... Unless they are in use???

I always recommend that new users try and get a number starting with 082 or 083.
Other prefixes sometimes have trouble sending to 3x xxx sms numbers and I have found that new web sms services don't allow sending to the new prefixes

This should not be too much of an issue, if your at a company with large mobile call bills.
But the main problem will be how ICASA is planning on setting up the Central Database of numbers, how it is to be accessed and who has this access.
Once this is anounced then people can get on with solutions, until then it is almost anybodies guess.
But this will make LCR's as they operate now useless, unless you are happy with best guess LCR.

Yup, i thought it might help some people. If you can, get 192k ADSL with a normal account to compare the two. Then drop whichever one you don't like.
