I have a massive idea to embarrass the Monopoly, Due to the nature of the campaign, I do not want to post details, but I am sure if the campaign is successful, The Evil money thirsty monopoly will have egg on their faces, I have emailed Debbie2 with the campaign and she thought the idea was good, but needed more feedback from others, if you would like to know details let me know,

PLEASE, WTF is wrong with being enthusiastic about actually DOING something about the situation? Perhaps you would be less bored and yawn less if this thread enabled you to spout forth on some or other ecentricity or another that you are so wont for doing in other threads. This guy is TRYING.
I for one am interested in what he has to say, just the same way i plow through your long and vitriolic posts in other threads. He is entitled to be heard and I dont think your comment was warranted. Let him say what he has to say and then if you disagree, shoot it down.
Lecture over.

How many times do I read about these "campaigns" on this forum for it to only fizzle out and amount to nothing ... and not to mention the myriad of websites started and orphaned ???.

Btw whatever happened to the "hand out a pamphlet in the black townships" ???.

As I stated before ... support rpm and the process at ICASA ... it is the right and only way to go to get results.

seeing as i have no idea at this stage what he is suggesting, i prefer to keep quiet until he has had a chance to make his suggestion.
FYI it was my suggestion back in 2003 to approach ICASA and that campaign took MONTHS to get going. Perhaps this chap has something equally good to offer.
As for campaigns fizzeling out, i disagree. Constant pressure on all fronts leads to change. We are getting press, we are getting air time. All of this adds up to success in terms of our mission - to educate the general public as to what is really going on, and to force change through collective consumerism. We grow by roughly 10 new members a day - that's success. We get press and air time - that's success. We are asked to comment on various issues by various media - that's success. We got in front of ICASA - that's success. Soon we will start releasing commentary in the form of press releases almost every week and because we have set ourselves up as the biggest consumer forum in the country, we will be published - that's success in progress.
I hear you, there have been a number of RAAAAH RAAAAH lets get goings that dont, but even that is success - it proves that we are prepared to pull together.
Lets just wait and see what Kal-Al has to offer. Thats fair dont you think?

go to your local businesses around you and ask them for a donation of 100 copies a time - you will be amazed how many small businesses will support you. A small business, according to my calculations, spends roughly 30% to 50% of their operating costs on Telkom. In my case, 75%. I would print 250 copies for you.

Tibby.Dude, please stop pouncing on new members. At least wait until they've got a post count above ten before you attack.

When I first joined MyAdsl and you attacked me personally and intellectually, I seriously considered leaving as I did not want to waste time in an environment where whatever I said was subjected to attacks. Please, there is no need to scare off the new members. I feel particularly strongly about Kal_Al as I was the one who invited him here. Please don't make me have to apologise to him for your posts. Thanks.

Kal_Al, feel free to post your idea here. I think it's a good one. Lets see what input we can get from other members.

I would like to propose a campaign, using one of The monopolies "rivals" for example CellC or MTN (Not Vodacom for obvious reasons)

The campaign will take the form of a record breaking attempt, possibly worlds largest conference call (Record currently stands at 3466 people connected for 10 seconds in USA Sept 29 2003)

When the media reports on a successful campaign, a spokesperson for MYADSL will give ALL the reasons why the attempt was made, why the attempt did not use the monopolies service... and what we stand for.

Should anyone wish to proceed, with out sticking my head in the toilet...
A committee should be set up to move the idea forward, if its a *** idea, sorry for wasting your precious 3 gig bandwidth.

I have also seen Kal-Al's idea and it could work if we had enough hands to the pump so to speak.
Kal-Al, welcome to the forum. Please post your idea. It's a good idea and I for one would support it.

OFFS belt up why dont you. THAT constitutes an attack. Please, be vocal by all means but i personally find your continual contentiousness and sarcasm very very laborious and quite off putting.

<on topic>

Firstly, Kal_Al welcome aboard. I'm not with MTN, but I think it's an interesting idea.

</on topic>

<off topic>

Secondly, I didn't take tibby.dude's *yawn* as a personal attack, but I did think it was incredibly rude and uncalled for. There is no excuse for being rude and insulting. (As he often is in many other threads)

I welcome every idea, whether it works or not, at least we are trying to do something constructive. If a forumulite is not interested or not willing to get involved, then thats ok, but there is no need to run down what others are trying to do.

I'd do it as well... mmm... mobilising 3500 people isn't going to be easy though. We'd have to get almost everybody on the forum! I'm sure it can be done though.

Due to some very bad past experiences, I'm extremely anti MTN, but I'm also prepared to get a starter pack if we're going to do this.

1st August sounds like a good date - day the new prices come in - steal some headlines

I've got MTN, but, um, sorry for the ignorance, but Kal_Al or someone could you please explain step by step how something like this would work? I'm very bad with the technical stuff so I don't understand :(

Kal_Al

Firstly, a record attempt would need to be logged with the correct authorities,
Secondly, a network would need to help the attemt.
Thirdly, the attempt would need to be recorded and documented
I think getting the people would be easy, I wonder if we place all people in a stadium and try the attempt there???
Next step is approching MTN or CellC, I am with Vodascum as well,

Therefor, plan of action:
Form a group, who will carry the attempt forward, contact records office in UK, approch Provider etc , media, etc etc, and then call for participents
1000 members on this Forum, each with 5 freinds? HMMM

And I was upset about the attitude of previous posts- no names mentioned, but thats water under the bridge,

I concur. I think this has to be small isolated groups of people. we all phone in at a prescribed time and stay on the line over a period of 5 minutes or 10 minutes - how long does a 4.99 starter pack give you?

As far as I know it doesn't give you any airtime, the R4.99 is only for the sim. You will then need to buy some airtime. I can see MTN smiling with glee at the prospect of 1000 or more people talking for 5 or 10 minutes at the same time.

UNless MTN come to the party and we can get a discount on our airtime - like a toll free number for the conference call? I will get in touch with their marketing director

Lets get a group together, with the aim of the following
A: work out technical difficulties
B: work on getting the record, recorded.
C: work on pulling everyone together, possibly a sponsor etc,

I dont think people would be a problem, technically I am sure it could be done, and the record is the easy bit, the hard bit it getting a sponser involved,

Any volunteers, please step forward,

you have to fight money with money, and unfortunately, any sponsor would be shy to step forward as Telkom overshadow them. Heck. they could even be more anti-competitive and accidently disconnect your sponsor's telephone lines and get them to lose money :D
