Looking really good so far, but it seems you have to login to some server even to play single player?

Yeah. Although I don't see the point of that because you can only unlock weapons if you play online.

The capped people aren't going to like that.

oh my lord, do companies have to do this. I mean look at the **** with Steam and now everyone else is getting on the bandwagon :/
oh well that might kill the game locally, what with bandwidth and all. soz killadoob seesm your dreams of great bf2 battles are drifting away.

I played the demo and it is good. In fact very good. I hope SGS will get a server up asap. The graphics for me at least is everything I hoped for and I cant wait to play it online. The singleplayer map is already a good indication to me that battlefield2 will be my next favourite game to play online. Thamks EA and DICE for what looks like an awsome game.

In the online-multiplayer map that comes with the demo (32-player, Gulf of Oman) it has aircraft.

Yes or you can play offline with bots on Gulf of Oman 32 player map that have aircraft. You just select the option to create a server.
Man I hope they get the server up on sgs already.

Dont think you can, it was only meant to be 16 single player and 32 multiplayer.
btw if the time limit becomes a rash, try this out:
Open up the file gpm_cq.py with notepad, it's under Battlefield 2 Standalone Demo Server\mods\bf2\python\game\gamemodes
Locate the line
host.registerHandler('TimeLimitReached', onTimeLimitReached, 1)
Place a # in front of it so it appears like
#host.registerHandler('TimeLimitReached', onTimeLimitReached, 1)
This will make the 12 min timer still appear but once it hits 0:00 the clock will disappear and you will be able to play until the tickets expire.
This game is Great! :D Definitely worth the download

So - whatdyall think ?
Methinks that a bigger opening map would have been better, started to feel kinda claustraphobic in that.

well i got it but havent had chance to play but will play tnite
im worried about the launch though when you hear its due for release on the 28th doesnt always mean you can get it on that date. imagine a launch with the game only being out for a couple of days or not out at all

Well for me the map is big enough if you consider it is only meant to be played by 32 people. Another thing I think is nice is the use of VOIP. Sure sometimes the little 12 year olds screaming "frag out" can get frustrating, but I think when playing in a squad this feuture is a must. It gives direction if the squad leader can effectively give orders and everyone knows exactly where to go.

Hold on a second, i though the demo map only contained 32 players

Yeah, I was wondering about that as well. When I left the game there was about 39 players still on. I wonder if saix didn't tweak the demo a bit to allow more players. I have to say tho that it was brilliant. Flying, stinger missiles, flares, popping smoke. It had everything. :D We were playing one map the whole time for hours on end and it didn't get boring. Finally a game that might just live up to it's hype. :)

I got a 2800+XP not 64 bit and it is not overclocked. what brand and model 9600 did u had? I have had mine for about a year and have had no real need for upgrade.
Maybe it is slow on your system because your system is corrupt(fragmented, invalid rgistry, etc) i like 2 keep mine squeeky clean and that helps
Chris
13-06-2005, 04:46 PM
Are you sure you can run it full, rburley?.
The 1GB is fine but the 9600XT and the XP 2800+ is not so fine for high graphics.

i have tried it and it runs ok. It does however slowdown when lots is going on but it is highly playable. the resolution is only set to 1024*748 tho

Bastards, still waiting for my ADSL loving to arrive, hopefully I can snag a copy of the demo from someone at work. One issue I've heard cropping up however is that just like Joint Operations you are required to log in to a server in the states, this could be an issue for capped users.

a) does lan play require connecting to the us server
b) does lan play have bots. nothing worse than 4-6 players on 32 player maps.

Well hopefully SGS are going to make an arrangement with Telkom as they did with Joint Operations where capped users could still play.

You need low pings for a start ;)
Click on multiplayer option (assuming you already have an online account?) -> connect IP -> enter the ip , either 196.4.79.20 or 196.2.45.11
It should load up for you to play against 'us folk' :)
