View Full Version : Norton AntiVirus annoying popups
I've found on numerous occasions that Norton AntiVirus 2004 CONSTANTLY reminds you of things! I've just reinstalled my NAV because it started doing this thing (for the fourth time in so many months) where it reminds me every ten seconds that my Personal Firewall is turned off - a fact which I am aware of as I use the Windows Firewall instead. Now that I have reinstalled Norton it's also constantly remind me that my updates are out of date. WTF IS GOING ON!?!?!?!?! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :(

trend internet security 2005... its the bong man. solid, stable, uses few resources
damn.. been using Norton for like..... ever hehe. What can I use to totally check my pc? I've taken off everything I know that's bad, and I've done several scans but I need something(s) that'll TOTALLY make my pc virus free. All my bandwidth seems to be vanishing too... Think my Windows has gone corrupt as well but really don't wanna format my hdd... did it in march and not up to doing it again - too much effort :D

Yep I've used NAV for a long time and I know about the annoying popups. Mine were mostly the Worm Protection giving tons of false alerts so I just turned it off. I have a network firewall so turning it off isn't an issue for me.

okay, didn't read the whole thread. a Suggestion. Install ONLY norton antivirus. Norton internet security sucks ass. Norton system works sucks ass. Try and get ONLY the virus protection.
I haven't had one problem with it. And can tell you from personal experience in using norton products, that using ONLY the virus scanner is much nicer than them combined.
I formatted my PC because it pissed me off so much.
Who remembers norton disk doctor 7 for dos? that thing could resurrect a stiffy and get the last 200kb of data off of it no problem... even make a "Dead" stiffy alive again by marking everything except the good sectors bad.
Where has our system tools gone to. They were so powerful....

Agrees with noone. I use Norton antivirus 2003, together with ZoneAlarm firewall. Works for me. Want to test AVG at some stage though.
I tried Norton internet security 2005 on my PC and it irritated the hell out of me. When I tried to uninstall it, it simply refused. I had to use tools described here (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=sg&docid=2004093015165236&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=d) (SymNRT and Rnav2003) to remove the damn thing.

Some computer guy told me that the professional virus removal businesses use AVG. Is that correct?

Never use Norton, its claims to catch spyware aswell but it doesnt.
Panda catches it then prevents but immunsiing your system.
Panda firewall , is just as good, no more rubbish, a.g.a.i.g
