I am looking to upgrade CPU on my emachines d620 (http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=eMD620-5777). Comes with AMD Athlon 64 2560e 65nm single-core processor firing at 1.6GHz (it is Intel Atom equivalent). On notebookreview (http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermarket-upgrades/320752-emachines-emd620-5777-upgrades-2.html) there are suggestions that the CPU can be upgraded to a much faster and less power intensive. The recommended CPU are:
(1) AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 45W
Dual-Core Processor
or
(2) AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e Brisbane Energy Effcient Dual Core Processor
2.6Ghz Socket AM2 1MB Cache 45W Retail.

I have upgraded the RAM from 1GB DDR2 667 to 2x2GB DDR2 800, and it has made a substantial difference to the performance. I also upgraded the HDD to 250GB @7200RPM. I now want to upgrade to a faster CPU. Battery life is not my worry.

Does anyone know where I could get these CPU?

Newegg is out of stock, so is sybaritic. Shop in SA would be good.

Check Ebay. You wont get laptop processors on their own in SA.

These are apparently desktop CPU's that can be used in these laptops. But thanks anyway--I will check ebay from US then.

Looks like that e-machines is a desktop, am I right? Then you can just put in any compatible CPU, you just need to find out what socket motherboard you have. You can do this easily with CPU-Z.

mmm... that restricts you to low power chips then. I'll be on the lookout for you.

There are many of e-commerce on-line computer hardware portal available in google. So you can select any one as per your hardware configuration requirement and then you can book order for your hardware configuration list.

@keveenjames--thank you for the suggestion. I have done a search already, and most vendors are in the USA. I wanted to know if there were any in SA? These CPU are desktop (mini desktop) CPU so was expecting one of SA vendors who frequent these forums to provide some help.
