Morning all

I need my Wow fix bad and am having huge problems with latency. I hope someone can help me out here.

Just got back to SA after 6 years and got myself a little telkom 192/2gb shaped line and am logging onto the US servers.

Latency is in the range of 1200-6000 averaging out at 3000 which is completely unplayable - even the fsih are getting away. I was getting better latency on dialup.

After speaking to a few people I am under the impression that the 4gb unshaped option from telkom should be better, but Im damned if Im paying them for it.

My questions are:
What line are you using ?
What modem are you using ?
What ISP are you using ?
What latency are you seeing ?
Are you using shaped or unshaped ?
What servers do you play on?
Can you suggest anything to help me out ?

Here is a tracert to the logon servers

As you said unshaped ADSL costs as much as a monthly home loan, i would suggest try another ISP or check what latency you get from EU servers by pinging/tracert them.

I'm kind of hoping that the problem is just the usual end of month, everyone trying to get the max out of their CAP problem.

I do think that there is more to this issue than meets the eye.
Lately I have often experienced problems with international traffic and having a loss of about 20% on pings. I run a website which is based in the USA and process credit cards through nedbank... My server has been experiencing problems contacting the NedBank servers (intermittently) and NedBank claims that there has been no problems with their servers. I have to assume that this problem is due to the international link not being stable.

last night my international was sucking - thats on dsl192...
usually i can get 500 - 700 ms pings to the above servers...

I think there must have been extra heavy international load last night cos today seems to be back to normal :)

3500??!?!?! geez... thats BAD... i have had no issues with ISDN... maybe some ADSL lines are being repaired/sorted coz i have checked US forums and they also have issues with their internet sometimes...

is it only US servers or EU servers too?

750ms doesnt sound like to unshaped.. using the 4gig unshaped from telkom which cost R900 a month you get around same as with my vpn. 400-450ms.

Im still not so sure how SAOL works, but for that price, I dont think its top nodge unshaped bandwidth.

It's allot better than the 3000ms the other guys where experiencing last night :p .

Normally it hangs around the 450ms mark, probably the end of month madness doing it's bit last night. Price wise it's competitive if you consider it costs half of telkoms offering and it's only 1 Gig less in bandwidth. :)
