I havn't played WoW for a couple of months, but I found an unshaped mtn business (formerly Verizon) adsl account works very well. I was getting about 270-350ms in the evenings and weekends.
I'm not sure which resellers supply those accounts though (mine is a benefit of where I work), but I'm sure someone can assist there.
The main thing is to look for unshaped. Any shaped account is likely to give you worse pings, especially during a work day.
I've heard of some guys getting some very good pings, as low as 240ms using some providers, but I never found out which ones.
Might have a look at someone like Nexus, I had a lot of hours happily raiding away on their 1GB unshaped accounts, ave ping with skype / vent still < 350ms.
But, I have been out of the game for a while, so my comments might be outdated -- What I remember is that the trick is to get onto the SAIX backbone -- It doesn't really matter which ISP but SAIX >> IS with regards to latency. SAIX -- normally via the SAT3 cable, IS normally via Satellite.
You don't want satellite if you want a low ping.
Anyway - just my 2c

dude, do yourself a favour and hook up a Webafrica prepaid account... 1GB will keep you going for yonks on WOW.
I got this and last night I was sitting at 220ms average... very impressive indeed. It did drop below 200ms, but most of the time was around 220ms.
Just make sure you doctor your connection with the latency fix... (see sticky on this sub-forum)
and you good to go! :)

Doesn't the WA prepaid account only last 1 month? regardless of whether you use your cap or not?
Thats what it says on their website anyway.
R99/m for 1GB is a lot.

Nope.
Prepaid never expires, and as such is more expensive.
Recharge expires at end of month, is around R15/g but you have to top up 3gb at at time at least.
Recharge is only available on non prepaid accounts though.

R99 for the 1GB is unshaped - you really don't need unshaped for WoW, at least not on WA. It used to be the case long ago, but there's practically no difference anymore.

So WA prepaid is just like Afrihost/Axxess prepaid, it lasts until you use up the cap you bought?
Only reason why I'm asking this is coz when I tried to buy a WA prepaid account I chose 1GB and next to it, it said 1 month, so I thought it would only last 1 month.

WoW US Testing
SAOL: 1500+ Ping. Ie. Worthless
WebAfrica: 500 ping but Disconnects every 5 minutes. Ie. Worthless.
I wonder if anyone in this country can supply internet that works.

Quakedog ... WebAfrica Unshaped (R89 / GB Expiring at month end) provides constant good latency (Sub 500ms) to the WoW Europe servers.
It's also damn expensive.
But, you did not tell us which servers you want to play on.
@P3rs0n, which WebAfrica product? Be specific please.

Makes me wonder if there is not actually a problem with his line, having problems with both those ISPs is concerning.

Currently there are still issues with SAT3 afaik, but typically WA/SAOL have been giving the best results for us guild wide with folks averaging 260-400.

Telkom says there is no problem.
WA Shaped 25GB Data Only Package.
10GB Shaped SAOL Data Only Package.
Telkom 4MB ADSL Line.

I don't really understand why people are so obsessed with Webafrica. I'm using Mweb Uncapped 4096k. My average ping is 350ms. A friend told me about Battleping a few days ago and using that my ping is now averaging between 250-270ms in 25 man raids. Battleping is still free which makes it even more awesome.
I have done more than 150gb this month on Mweb, my ping is the same or better than people on Webafrica that I know.
What would it cost to get 150gb from webafrica? I'm betting quite a lot more than R539.
See, m-web uses Seacom and not Sat3. You getting 250ms is highly unbelievable, or very very lucky. To start off with, latency to London over M-Web start at 230ms vs WA that starts at 170ms. See that is a HUGE difference.
Now add game latency and the additional distance to the WoW servers and you easily sit with more. Personally I achieved 198ms as lowest but 220ms as my general stable ping at which is sits most of the time and at bad busy times 280ms. All of these on a WA account. My experience wasn't the same on the M-Web account, but generally I had 350ms stable and 300ms lowest on M-Web myself. On both accounts I used to play on EU-Sylvanas.
You are probably just playing on a realm which is much closer to M-Web's transit landing points so you get pretty decent latency on that. The other fact is, I stay in Cape Town, which means SAT3 is almost at my doorstep, where as just getting to Seacom adds 30-40ms to my latency!

A couple of our guys claim the same, but on occasion suffer DC's / lag at very unfortunate times causing wipes...

I got 280ms on WA's shaped accounts. Haven't found anything better yet.
@ Quakedog.. Are you who I think you are?

How?? I get like ~350ms and when I do a trace route to the realm server it shows a max of 210ms right. I live 1km away from my exchange, checked the noise level etc, all is hundreds..

Will let you know about the first time I DC in a raid, has yet to happen :P
You sure those guys didn't just do something silly and fake a dc to cover up what they did? :D

I reduced my latency by pulling the plug out the wall and walking to the shop...

It is very easy. However living in Cape Town where WA's network is located also does help.
I think 280ms is the lowest without a proxy. With a proxy you can get it lower, but also it depends on the realm you are playing on.
For fun, create a character on EU-Scarshield Legion and check your latency. That is the realm I found having the lowest latency. Don't blame the starting area, do some work to get as far as dalaran with whatever way, trust me you will still be surprised.

I shall try this. Funny thing is when I log on, I get 280ms for about 5 min then it goes up. If I'm all alone in say, The Barrens, my latency will be around 230ms. While leveling my alt in Dragonblight, latency was around 290ms. Sigh..
