Anyone know how to change a Sansui RX-9902AVD to multi-zone?
I have a list of websites I usually visit to find a hack, but very few of them list any Sansui models and none have this particular one. Anyone know if Sansui goes by a different name in other countries?
Also, please feel free to use this thread to list your own make/model of DVD player if you're looking for a hack.
When I last checked- the Sansui was a pain in the ass to region hack. Speaking under correction here- I *think* you needed a mod chip (not too sure)
Sansui is a brand name and AFAIK doesn't go by other names abroad.
The easiest DVD players to region hack are the generic Chinese ones that can be bought at Pick 'n Pay and Hifi Corruption under brand names AIM and DIAMOND, respectively.

Is it Region locked? Almost all the players on the SA market are not locked, even when they say they are.

I think Sansui is a brand ... I would buy a Sansui before I bought an AIM or Diamond
My Sony DVD players came with 'Region 2 locked' on the box - but neither were. In fact, the salesman told me if it was, he'd send it back to Sony to do the unlocking.

Trust me. Sansui is NOT a brand. Sansui TVs are made by TCL (chinese manufacturer), and their other electronics are similar to Singer or Diamond or TEAC.
AKAI and Sansui = Japanese name/chinese cr@p.

Ok ... maybe it isn't ;) I just know that personally my brand list would look something like this ...
1) AIM, DIAMOND, TEAC
2) SANYO, SANSUI,
5) JVC, TELEFUNKEN
3) SAMSUNG, LG, PIONEER, PANASONIC
4) SONY, TECHNICS, KENWOOD
5) YAMAHA, MARANTZ, HARMON KARDON
That's with 6 being the preference, and also product dependant (general)

Yip, unfortunately it is. I tested it with a region 1 DVD (I buy from Amazon US on occassion) and got a "Wrong Region" message.

Teac is apparently not that bad (this is from hearsay).
I've owned a Telefunken DVD player and refuse to buy one again.
I'm quite an LG fan but be aware they they list their speaker output in Watts (Program), which is different from both RMS and PMPO. It's about half of RMS from what I'm told. A lot of people mistake it as RMS.
This is the third Sansui product I've bought and I've yet to be dissappointed.

Heeeey! ;) Many companies are owned by other companys!
I knew Technics was Panasonic and Marantz was Philips ... but they're they're still two different companies. In that case Lamborghini = Porsche = Audi= VW = SEAT and Ferrari = Fiat ...
Had two Marantz CD players now and I think they're magic - not much can touch most models for the same price.
I'd never go for a Telefunken products, BUT we have a Telefunken TV that was bought 8 years ago and I'm battling replacing it at a reasonable cost. Also, seen the picture quality of many Telefunken RPTVs compared to the other brands sitting next to them, and I'd like the picture!

nope...Technics is just Panasonic and Marantz is just Philips, and Aiwa is Sony. Not different companies at all. If you look at company ownership then JVC,Victor, RCA and Panasonic are the same (Matsu****a corporation)....this is more like your car anology.
(And seriously AUDI=VW=SEAT=SKODA :D).

Martin, there is probably a remote control hack for the Sansui. Try the hacks for TEAC and Singer if you can find them on the net.

*sigh* I hate being wrong ... ;)
Must ask you then, what TV could I replace my (cr@ppy Japanese) Telefunken with? ;)
The TV was an import from Germany 8 years back, and the main reason I battle to replace it, is because it features twin SCARTS - which can both be configured to accept RGB, S-VHS or composite video signals. This is ideal, because my DSTV, DVD player and Sony PS1/2 all use RGB via SCART - which gives a much better picture than standard! Plus, I can rename all stations, it has a light sensor (not that Goldeneye thing), and thin TV tube.

Looks like you have to buy them though. If anyone is looking for a pretty comprehensive site, try www.dvd365.net.

Well the only thing I can suggest is long cumbersome and you really should consider it when there is no other solution.
Rip the DVD to PC
Remove region info
... burn region free DVD
Is it necessary to attack me on the forum. I said I was speaking under correction.
I SAID THAT, I was speaking under correction. The last time I worked on Sansui products they were legit ones because the schematics I was using had the official company logo on them and were properly written just like the service manuals of other brand name Japanese electronics.
Attack, attack, attack, in the hope that I will fsck off from the forum.
You d1ckheads forget I was once in the repair game, and I do electronic engineering for a living.
The DVD players, including the ones retrofitted with a Telefunken badge, I know where they come from because we have the FSCKING CATALOG from the Chinese supplier here at the office because China supplies us with sub-assemblies of certain things i.e. power supply bricks, etc.. The DVD players in that catalog, at least seven of them look identical to ones currently on sale under DIAMOND, AIM, TELEFUNKEN, ACCENT, etc...
Most DVD players in SA are not region locked. My experience with the Diamond and AIM players was that the region code can be changed with remote control commands.

Seriously tho'.
Very few TVs now have RGB input, most high end models have Component(YUV). So you'll probably have to get one of these thingies (http://www.highway.net.au/parts/converters/2005.html).
Then you can pick and choose the TV model that best suits your requirements.

I found quite a few multi-region Alba hacks and the codes you need to enter on the remote look very similar to the few Sansui codes I've found. I'll try all of them tonight and let you guys know if one of them works.

I purchased a samsung dvd player from hi-fi corp and it was region free. One day i decided to do a full hardware reset on it and then it was locked to region 2. After some searching on the web I found the unlock code and all was good again. So hi-fi corp in goodwood must open dvd player boxes and unlock them and then reseal the boxes or the factory unlocks them.

Success!!
How to region hack a Sansui RX-9902AVD:
1. Power On the unit and Open the tray
2. Press the Setup button
3. Use the Right key until you highlight the Custom menu
4. Press 3, 3, 3 and 3
5. A service menu will then be displayed
6. Use the direction keys to select the region region and then press Enter
This is actually a region hack for Alba players taken from: http://www.dvd365.net/?hacks/alba.htm
Many thanks to Gambit for joining up the dots between Sansui and Alba.

Hi all,
Anyone know of a region hack for a Wharfedale-780P DVD Player.
I've Googled for it, but come up with nothing on this particular player. I can't even seem to even find ANY info on it, maybe it is produced by someone else and re-branded as a Wharfedale.
Any help would be appreciated :)

Have you tried all the hacks on this page? http://www.dvd365.net/?hacks/wharfedale.htm
Sometimes the same hack works on different models.
I'll see if I can find anything else.

I very much doubt it, most of these are remote hacks. Maybe if you're updating the firmware or something like that.
Not all hacks are in the service menu, sometimes you just type in codes while the tray is open or something like that. Differs from player to player.
Teac doesnt seem to be to bad!
Anyway my ex wants to buy a dvd player now, for dvd's and mp3 playing, my lg plays mp3's but the display is CRAP, short file names etc etc etc, anyone got a suggestion on what she should buy, she wants a cheap one thats functional and pretty decent!

I had 2x Sony 575s ...
They can do everything, and sub R700.00. They also got good reviews.
But ...
My first one was taken back after a day cause it was noisey and vibrated the case - and the second one started showing the same signs after 3 months. I sold it

I also bought the LG RH7624W DVD Recorder and I was told by the lying greasy salesman that it was region free. I have since found that this is not the case so searching the net turned up the following:
1. Put in a DVD that will play (in our case region 2)
2. When it starts playing, press eject
3. While the drawer is open press "0" seven times
4. When you get the "Congrats" press Enter and done!
I find the Engrish in the manual and on some menu choices to be quite irritating... I thought LG would be a bit more professional.

HiFi Corp should/will hack all Sansui products sold by them to be region free. Most of the time it is done before the player is packaged but they do miss some - just take it back and tell them the salesman (*"can't remember his name"*) promised you it is multiregion or not region locked.

I found it easier to google the net for the region hack then to actually take the unit back to the shop. I bought a Sansui from Hi-Fi corp a few years back and it was region free as promised, but now it says "No Disc" even with new original disks. I even bought one of those cleaning disks but it didn't help. That's why I decided to get the LG recorder. The Sansui is out of warranty and I don't know if it is repairable. And as for the region codes, I don't see the point. I don't think it stops piracy, and it's just an inconvenience for people that buy original disks as I would probably bet that pirated disks are not region specific (because of course I know nothing about copied disks...) :D

Good daY THere
I recently bought a LG265 dvd player
And went to Setup menu, then Lock option, then pressed "0" several times, untill "congrats dvd is now REgion free" sign showed up.
it worked perfect and now able to play all regions.
however, 3 weeks later the dvd player was unable to record to the hard drive.
Do you think it was the region free Code that destroyed my dvd hard drive?

Ok ... maybe it isn't ;) I just know that personally my brand list would look something like this ...
1) AIM, DIAMOND, TEAC
2) SANYO, SANSUI,
5) JVC, TELEFUNKEN
3) SAMSUNG, LG, PIONEER, PANASONIC
4) SONY, TECHNICS, KENWOOD
5) YAMAHA, MARANTZ, HARMON KARDON
That's with 6 being the preference, and also product dependant (general)
In General,
Panasonic at top, second place:
Toshiba, Sony, Sharp, Hitachi, Pioneer, Yahama, Thompson, Philips, Siemens, Samsung, NAD and LG.
Rest...
BTW Technics = Panasonic.

I need help with a region hack for a Supersonic SDP 512 DVD Player?
It is not even listed as a product on their website (it may be re-branded).

I can't find anything on the internet about it.
Is there a default hack code I can use?
Buy a new one for R 299.00 and get it over with. Phillips or LG
You spend more time and money on the internet, where you could've bought a new one.

I wouldn't generalise that like because some of those companies re-brand the innards. Sony, for example might be using a Pioneer one day or Matsh*ta the next.
