yes, from the SGS forums the admins say they are patching the servers, though i am not patching my PC until they are sorted out with the servers... not much of a patch... but it should fix all the irritating game browser niggles and make us wait for the BIG patch TBA soon...

I just want my Co-Op back!!! I hope they'll include it in a mappack or something. But at least this patch will sort out the biggest technical problems with the game.

I just want my Co-Op back!!!
There is some workarounds to get coop going. 16 player maps only though. Basically boils down to start a single player game and then everyone who wants to connect to it uses the option under the online browser to specify an IP to join and you are away. If for some reason you don't have an online account, or can't get online it gets trickier with having to start a normal multiplayer server, have that show up in everyones lan browse list, disconnect (hope no one clicks refresh on their list) then start a single player game and have people connect to that. So far though I haven't got it to work yet :(

But yeah the lack of coop is a big thing for me too

@DFantom:

I posted this on the SGS forum regarding Co-Op or trying to play Co-Op without having to connect to the net. It's just a theory I have about using the shortcut command lines. I haven't tested it out yet, and will only be able to this weekend. Can you see if it works?

1. Have all your friends start the game and set up an Offline account for themselves. They must take note of the spelling of their accounts as they might need it later. Now everyone except you must exit the game.

2. Start a single player game. Once your in the game pause it by pressing the "P" key or whatever you set pause to be.

3. Now go to all your friends and go into the properties of their BF2 shortcut. Now add this command line to the target: +joinserver [Your IP] NB - without the brackets. Let them start and see if that works.

4. If this doesn't work you may have to add this line first: +playername [your friends Offline accountname] NB - without the brackets.

Here is an example of how my command line would look if I had to join you and your IP was 192.168.0.1:

"E:\games\eagames\bf2\bf2.exe" +playername |BFC|Scart +joinserver 192.168.0.1

Try it first without the +playername command to see if it works, then with.

I looked into this last week and it's a no go. The joinserver switch is broken, so it doesn't help.
Rumoured to be intentially broken so only gamespy will work with BF2, but thats a rumour. Another rumour is that it should be fixed in a patch (this one maybe? damn got to find a change log for this now).

From http://dx.ampednews.com/?page=articles&id=11057

* Fixed in issue that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.
* Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu
* Fixed an issue with increasing performance degradation on servers
* Fixed a problem with shader caching on client/host : after the first map in a rotation, shaders would be loaded on the fly during gameplay
* Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB
* Fixed a problem that caused environment mapping to not appear on reflective surfaces.

# Fixed a crash that happened when a client picks up a kit that doesn't exist anymore.
# Fixed a problem with AI when the game was paused for a long time: bots would become unresponsive and also shoot more accurately.
# LOD distances tweaked on certain objects.

:( nothing about the command line switch... will try it anyway tonight just incase it's fixed but not documented

EA has released a community update that deals with the huge catastrophe that was the release of the v1.01 patch (what with the huge memory leak and all). Essentially, they're telling people to downgrade their games back to v1.0 until a hotfix is released.

HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming Soon
First off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01). Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed. In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update we released earlier this week.

Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01 as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed through this web space in the coming days.

[EA]Mike

That's pretty messy.

James

Some news from the front lines... what should have happened last week!

from SGS "We have reverted our Battlefield 2 servers to the original version since EA have withdrawn the v1.01 patch. EA have posted a community update regarding the reasons for withdrawing the patch and info on how to unpatch your clients.

All clients will have to unpatch their games before playing on our servers. We applogogise for the inconvenience but this was out of our control."

pffft... EA should get their fliping act together... how can a memory leak "leak" throught their test labs and QA personnel... typical EA... rushing games for the bucks... aarrghhh... i have already re-installed BF2 twice now... and of late the SGS servers have been quite laggy...

still fun though... :P

Has anybody got this to work? Would be awesome to get a few bots in on a multiplayer game.

Can't play online without horrible lag (Iburst), come to think of it, can't even get mail...lol (tongue in cheek).. :D
