The system will open with two train services:

•The “Airport Service” will link Sandton to the O.R. Tambo International Airport. Airport passengers can board at any station and will pay R100 for a single train trip to the airport. All airport trains go via Sandton station.
•The “Commuter Service” links all the stations with the exception of the airport. A single train trip from Sandton to Marlboro will cost R16.50, from Sandton to Rhodesfield R21.00; and from Marlboro to Rhodesfield R18.50.

Integrated single train plus single bus trips will cost R22.50 from Sandton to Marlboro, R27.00 from Sandton to Rhodesfield; and R24.50 from Marlboro to Rhodesfield.

Parking at any station will cost R9.50 for the first 24hrs or part thereof as long as you also use the train. If you park and do not use the train, the parking fee is substantially increased.

The prices seem very resonable on the commuter service, my only real problem with the Gautrain is that it stops at 8.30pm. Hopefully they run it until later soon.

Can't wait to hear what the PTA (hatfield) to Joburg prices will be. And I agree I also hope it will start running till later once it is going.

The prices are very reasonable. A taxi to OR Tambo cost way more than R100 from Sandton & I for one think it freaking brilliant and long overdue. All major cities should have a service like this running from the Airport, less people will get ripped off by unscrupulous taxi operators.

Gautrain FTW :D

Taxis are a freaking rip off. That is why they do not want the busses fully up and running as they know they will never be able to compete.

Many, many moons from now. I think they said it will only become operational by mid to end 2011.

Glad to see you wanna take train from Pta to civilisation :)

Why does it sound too expensive...is this all we are going to use the gautrain for? airport and back? if so then yes...no probs.
but for everyday use? too expensive... for R200 bucks i can fill up my tank halfway...yes i know tourists, people without cars etc etc.

i know i can't compare but was in NY recently....so a ticket costs $1....to anywhere....anywhere...

Much more reasonable prices than expected.

My thought too. I'll pay R100 to avoid the drive to the airport...but if PTA to JHB is even R100 return (not one-way), and I had to travel that route every day, I couldn't afford R2000 a month, even if it did mean not using that petrol 20 days a month.

Yeah, well, in fairness... OR Tambo is like 40-50km from town. That's basically upstate from NYC. :p

The R100 ticket is ONLY for Sandton to ORTIA, the other tickets cost R16 to R30, not bad at all.

Not me. I go anywhere near a freeway.

That is pretty reasonable for PTA to Sandton!

The Gautrain runs alongside the freeway and is therefore going to help frequent freeway users anyway. If you are too far from the freeway then you are probably too far from the station which means you never had a problem to start with.
