I'm looking at a Motorola Milestone and as my 3G contract is about to expire, I was considering getting a data package add-on for the phone and ditching my 3G card.

I know it's relatively straightforward to tether a Droid phone if you use a M$ OS or have a Mac, as PDANet has a software version for each OS but what about Linux ?

Anyone have experience tethering a Droid phone to Linux ?

Not running linux myself at the moment, but a friend of mine is - he just got a Desire and said it's as easy as plugging in and selecting internet sharing mode. You dont need PDAnet for any OS, although you might need to install the sync drivers in windows (I think, I havent used my phone connected to a pc that I hadnt already put the drivers on)

get a phone with 2.2 like the Nexus One and you can either usb tether or use it as a wifi hotspot.

I tether my Dream (with cyanogenmod rom) to Ubuntu via USB with no hassles. All you need is a rom that allows for tethering.
