Hey Mayur
I've had my Desire for about 3 weeks, and all I can say is, it's honestly the best phone I've EVER had! I had the HTC Magic before, also very nice phone, but the desire is just fantastic.
Haven't come across the speaker issues, although I haven't used the loudspeaker too much. I will test tonight and let you know.
With regards to the crackling through the ear speaker, nope, haven't had anything like that.
Cheers
Wesley

Maybe listened to about 3 hours of music on mine, and no such thing. Maybe if one listens to crappy pop it crackles;-) Phone speaker does not crackle, and phoning through the headset does not as well.
Awesome phone....I showed it off at a client today...the people's jaws were on the ground after I demo'd street view and the motion stuff.

Great phone, my biggest gripe is the battery life, be prepared for daily recharges if you're an active phone user.

Are you referring to playback in general or just from video recorded from the phone? I was quite disappointed with the framerate in the latter.

Well the video recorder doesn't record at 25/30fps so that playback does look a bit stuttery

media playback during calls
Media playback is great, but what do you mean by media playback during calls? A call mutes the media player, doesn't it?
FM radio is also great as long as the signal is good - but of course this requires wired earphones.

sorry i meant media playback via the loudspeaker
hows the fm radio thru the loudspeaker? (taking for granted the signal is good)

I have a rooted desire, no crackling, it is the best fone i have seen yet, not even the 4G comes close to it. If you worried about crackling, you probably thinking about cranking the volume to full blast, like your car stereo, and the speakers distort, that is normal with almost every device, especially when you have the soundtrack recorded way to loud, not normalized, etc. give the tiny speakers a chance, they do what they need to, and they do it well, however they not meant to blast your neighbors ears off. thats why I phone has a dock to improve there sound.
the up side of it is you can get yourself one of those divoom, little ball type speakers, they pretty awesome if you wanna really make a noise:
this one is nice and small: http://www.divoom.com/itour-pop.asp
http://www.divoom.com/
I have seen them alot in computer shops
Oh yes my one gripe about this phone, The battery life doesn't work for me, right now, It's causing problems with my family, because my wife says i dont spend any time with her, i am always playing with the fone, and because i am playing with it 25/8 since the day i got it, 3/4 weeks ago, it has to live with a charger... though i must admit the worst day of my life was when i forgot it at home one day, and only got home late, that day. The battery life didn't even nudge a bit, it was still almost full, @ 98% that evening.... the fault -------------->was me LOL :)
Hope it helps :)

You have to have your headphones plugged in to use the FM radio (they work as an aerial), so FM through loudspeaker isnt really something you can do :P
And disabling all your widgets does extend your battery life a lot, but it kinda defeats the purpose of the phone... Unless you dont mind manually refreshing everything every so often.

hi there
thanks for your input
no im not talking abt badly recorded audio or even putting the volume too loud so everyone can hear
as long as its loud enough for me to hear clearly im happy
why i ask abt the loudspeaker volume is coz when driivin its safer to use the loudspeaker to hear then to hold the fone by your ear
therefore i ask if the loudspeaker during calls is clearly audible and not crackling( as i've read on overseas forums)
Video playback is not so great. That said i have not tried to playback anything of high quality, but i dont suspect much improvement.
The speaker crackling, havent experienced that through the normal earpiece or headphones. I have not used the loudspeaker function.
Battery life is not the greatest, daily charge is required.
Other issue is high data usage. Pending individual usage, be prepared to buy at least a 100Mb bundle.

Maybe use the headset provided, probably better then using the loudspeaker. The headset has a mic too.

The loudspeaker is definitely the weakest element of the phone, but it's perfectly able to do what a phone's loudspeaker is meant to. I've used it in the car when I've forgotten to enable Bluetooth (with the phone in one of those windscreen-sucker-navigation-gooseneck-thingies) and it's usable; not great... usable. It is not a portable boombox, though - music playback lacks bass & is a bit tinny. But then my theory is that normal people don't walk around listening to music through their phones' loudspeakers.

as long as its not unbearable and as long as you can acutally have a conversation than its okay
im not thinkin of using the loudspeaker as a boombox jus as a handsfree speaker when driving

if you buying a phone that is THAT expensive, just buy a bluetooth headset for R199 - R299... i mean REALLY~~~!!!!
If you to cheap for that, just keep the headphone cable in the car around ur rear view mirror and then you can use it when you get a call...
I watch youtube videos on the phone in bed at night over the wifi and the volume is perfect, we can hear everything the people say, and there is no crackling... maybe if you put it on full volume it will distort, but then the phone was not designed to be set to play music at full volume, as with all other music players / car players / hifi systems...
I have a magic and my gf has a desire, and i can honestly say there is a huge improvement over the magic. the only thing my magic does WAY better, is the battery life. My battery lasts 3 days with occasional work calls. but then again i disable internet and my apps dont update, and i turned off constant internet connection. I only update my apps when i get home, over my wifi, and then i turn my wifi off again... my gf needs to charge her phone every day as the battery dies WAY to fast... even though the actual battery is larger than mine, it doesnt last long enough.
I would recommend keeping a car charger, and another charger at work, or at least keep a usb cable at work and then a charger at home, cous you might always need to give it a charge...

hi there
thanks for your response
its not about being cheap.i can buy a headset if i wanted to but the fact is that its an expensive phone and everything should work the way it has to. and should not require me to buy a bluetooth headset.
if you watched youtube video using the loudspeaker and it sounded fine than i guess thats wat i wanted to hear.
thanks

Ye youtube is 100% perfect watching blogs etc. I must be honest, as we watch quite abit of youtube on the phone, its really crisp picture and decent audio.
I actually didnt even know about any crackling audio until you said anything, as I had not experianced it on my gf's phone at all.
It has a 3.5mm head phone jack which is always useful as almost all audio equipment supports that, even some car mp3 players now days :)

I must admit i never had crackling, especially during calls, he only time i did have crackling was with a badly recorded audio clip, it distorted even on my laptop. Remember your i phone and some other devices actually limit the user to the amount of loudness on the device, hence the need for people hacking the volume on ipods see here or even google it yourself: http://www.wikihow.com/Unlock-iPod-Volume-Limit.
all equipment will distort at 100% true RMS, what we hifi boffs usually look for is the threashold before you hit the distortion, can be anywhere from 75% to 95% depending on device audio quality, i would rate the desire at about 98%, remember this device is open source so it is not locked like the I Phone

On my Desire I can confirm that on Loudspeaker it is up to sh..... Doesn't even come close to the 5800XM, but then again the XM was designed for that purpose. On normal calling there's no problem (not using the loudspeaker).
This is by far the best phone I ever had and everyone will second that, my only problem is the loudspeaker and the obvious batterylife that could be better.

Just a reminder, if your track is recorded at way above normalized levels, and play back on devices like cellphones and GPS's on 100% volume for too long, it will eventually blow the speaker, thats why they make things like divoom. I learn't the hard way and blew the speaker on my JNC GPS unit. the garmin voice started crackling on normal, and eventually she was silent. all from playing a song my nephew recorded incorrectly... the track levels were way into the red... but it was a cool song.
Luckily i got a speaker that worked even better at the china mall in Amalgam. it wasn't for GPS, but from cellphone, and looked the same size for R2

so vids copied over is fine ?
I've been converting series to HTC Desire/Nexus 1 formats for the past few weeks and watching it on my phone and it's been great! The videos were 720p and I converted it to mp4 with resolution 800 x 480 (or if I want fit lots, around 480 x 270) with sound encoded with AAC format. It's really nice to watch on and sound is good through the ear phones but I not so much through the loudspeaker (I do get crackling at higher volumes on the loud speaker, but the headset is perfectly clear)

Definitely problems with the loud speaker, definitely not a problem. Unless you're using your phone as a boombox, then there's a problem - with you mostly.
I use rockplayer - plays *.avi, not sure what specific formats are supported. So no conversion necessary unless you need some outlandish codecs to play.

Rockplayer plays normal videos downloaded from torrent sites(the 350mb an episode type) perfectly. 25fps no problem.
