Dear Thank you for contacting HTC. We are aware of this issue and will be pushing out an update to rectify this issue. Please check your phone for updates, if you are willing to, please leave your name and contact information and we can contact you the moment the update becomes available. If you have any other inquiries, don’t hesitate to contact us again. Please note that you can contact us via support line. For further details, please go to http://www.htc.com/europe/CA_Hotline.aspx , Thank you so much for using HTC products. Respect & Regards, HTC Team http://www.htc.com

So maybe there has been some change of heart from google's side with this next update?
Can only hope.

Same as Apple's store i just DO NOT for the life of me understand WHY its not open to SA????? This is discrimination based on country, I play the race card here :p

Maybe everyone is SA should pirate the apps in protest and not pay. Developers wont lose money seeing as they couldn't make it in the first place as its not available to SA

I think most of them already pirate it. Some paid apps can be purchased straight from the developers (or another) website though, that way the developers get their money and Google gets nothing.

I want to avoid using the enabler.
I don't see why I should run random code to enable a feature that is advertised as part of the phone, and doesn't work.
I would rather swear profusely at them, or die in agony... something like that :-)

There's nothing random about the code. It's got a specific use, and that use is to enable paid apps on the market. Nothing malicious, etc.

If you want to hinder your android experience just to prove a point, go ahead :P

Here are two other Android app stores not run by Google:
http://slideme.org/
http://andappstore.com

You should be able to buy from them but the number of apps is probably small. Haven't tried them myself.

Thanks DAE_JA_VOO, my emphasis of course was on "what exactly is this "Market enabler"??" as in like what does it actually do so as to allow us to get paid apps?

Was just slightly surprised that one couldn't access them from the get go?!

It basically spoofs your location to USA or whatever you select, and then you can see the apps available for the selected country.

Yeah. It essentially makes your phone tell the Market that you're on a carrier (Like T-Mobile) in a country that supports apps, like the US.

And this is where you can modify the settings manually

Slightly off topic - can you get that cool circle battery indicator without rooting? Or is it a Froyo thing?

Running the enabler but I see the only payment option seems to be credit card on Android market. Is this going to work with selected country being USA under credit card details???

Your credit card is tied to your Google Account (via Google Checkout).

And yes, it will work :) I have bought a few apps already.

Regarding market enabler. It gives me am error "we got a problem houston" and then no cchange. Is this because of the type of sim or the network provider I.e. vodacom

go to https://checkout.google.com. set up your credit card there as a south african one. you can then select that card when you're buying something from the market

It's because your phone isn't rooted.

Read somewhere that it didn't require root. Eish, need to get down to this rooting business

Agreed...My phone benchmarked at most 8 with stock rom, after rooting my highest was 40.7 or something in that area....that is 5 times faster! Also after using Launcher Pro, which I hated the first time I installed it, I won't go back to HTC sense...Launcher Pro is just fast, well laid out, and practical. It means losing the HTC Sense widgets, but I am fine with that. Sense feels way too slow for me for practical usage. Once something works fast, a slight slow down will kill you.

Launcher Pro is awesome, I mostly like how the app drawer works and the fact that everything you open and close has that zoom feel to it. Normal opening and closing just P's me off now...

Oh yeah, that's for sure. I HATE using Sense, because it just feels so laggy compared to LauncherPro. I <3 LauncherPro (and I'm a Plus user :D )

What is different in Plus? I want to get it as well, mostly just to support the developer, just thought I would ask?
