...seems to be pretty non-existent. Couldn't find a phone anywhere in Vodaworld and Smartcom tells me Vodacom has been Desire-less for 3 weeks now... :(

Yeah, and the ones that are coming in might have LED screens vs. the AMOLED's we got...there are trade-offs, but there are advantages to that as well....I like my AMOLED though:-)

Examples of both, please.

Yes please... And why won't they have AMOLED's? Why LED? And what are the major differences?

Because there is a shortage of AMOLEDs. Anyway, I believe they are coming with Super LCD screens, not LED. They will probably be easier to see in sunlight.

Maddmatt has advantage 1 covered of LED. AMOLED's are terrible in sunlight, they also have a bad life-span...about 5 years and they start fading away. But advantages: better battery usage, viewing angle is perfect at any angle, and the colors are incredible...contrast ratio is off the charts

Super AMOLED matches LCD in sunlight though. But currently only the two latest Samsung phones have that.

I've found the same about stock - HTC supply in SA is disgusting on just about any phone.

Worth the wait in my opinion :)

Maybe he is on the FBI top 10 wanted list, in that case it might be difficult for him to import :p

...because I don't have the money right now to import. :p

Then you wont have the money to buy it locally, because it will most likely be over R7000 :p
Unless you're on a contract that you can get it on.

I am on contract, yes. That's why I wanted to get the Desire from Vodacom... I'll try and follow the Galaxy S thread then to see how / when / if stock of it pans out in ZA...

Apparently there's a spat between HTC and Samsung (who produce AMOLEDs), so expect AMOLED in Samsung phones, but HTC is going back to LCD. AMOLEDs look AMAZING. LCDs look washed out in comparison
