The seeeeestem says 17th August hey?? Chances.

Phone the MTN Warehouse yourself to find out when the phones are in stock - it's the only way.

If only it came in the Captivate form factor, seems to be the best looking out of 3 Galaxy S models I've seen which includes the original Galaxy S and Vibrant.

At 280 a month they are only just covering the cost of he phone but not the r100 airtime... The price of the galaxy s will be very similar to the one of the desire and x10

Sorry guys, false alarm. I phoned and checked. They don't. If you approach any of your providers, ask for Galaxy S (Model: GT- I9000) and NOT Galaxy S, because they are thinking 'Spica'.

I'm gonna ask them for the Galaxy S with the fast RAM chips. Not impressed how the Droid X makes this phone look very slow.

Best we get used to it - it just seems everyone in SA has a job. Not a career which they are passionate about.
For eg: Vodacom just like the goverment until they got asses kicked and said they need to grow and fast - now look at them TV, Mini Sim etc watch them for the next few mths until they safe again then back to the goverment style where MTN and the others are right now.

Update on vodacom and the Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000 & GT-I9000/M8) , I Phoned a few vodashops , including vodacoms handset upgrades department as well as Vodashop inside vodaworld
As most of you know the new Vodacom Dealsheet was released yesterday. And the samsung Galaxy S in not yet available for new or upgrade cusomers.

They are also not able to give me an ETA , And Claim that the device is still in network Testing .

Well That’s an estimation i firstly looked at the price of the HTC hd2, the Sony Ericsson Experia 10 and the Samsung wave, then I looked at the international prices then i added extra and a bit of tax well the amount added up to that, oh and i asked one of the Samsung rep and he said we looking at between R5500 and R7000.
As far as contract i really don’t know.

Direct import from overseas for the Galaxy S costs between R5000-5500. Some people have said MTN will be offering the phone on an 200 contract for R259 (24months)

According to this site - the samsung galaxy X (that would be the Vibrant) is already in SA

http://www.itweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=36018:smarter-smartphones-hit-sa&catid=69&Itemid=58

Someone should inform Vodacom they have it.

That's a typo. Galaxy X/Vibrant is US T-Mobile only and exclusive (and Canada Bell). The model being sold here is the Galaxy S, an locked or unlocked version of the European/UK version

Yea I thought it might be a typo. Anyway I just confirmed the post by adding the CEO on Twitter (I hate twitter, so this was quite a big step for me) and it seems he said that the Samsung Galaxy S arrived on August 17th. Which is strange since we all thought it was being tested on Vodacoms networks all this time. Oh well, glad its finally here. My upgrade is due in less than a month!

I'll tell you this much - Vodacom in Century City have no clue about it.
No idea on deals or stock. Totally useless.
MTN don't have stock, but at least they've got their pricing on deals sorted.
Sorry didn't get a prepaid price from them, but on MTN100 for R259 and MTN200 for R319, no pay-in on both deals.

If anybody is interested the USA variants now have a free method of unlocking them. Signature, wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Grandmasters can get quite a nice discount from me as well.

Expansys is asking for R5376 here is their link:http://www.expansys.co.za/d.aspx?i=198072.
Vodacom is asking for R5499 on pre-paid call (011)653-6530 at vodawolrd, they still have some in stock.
I found the prices today, they seem reasonable.
