Been looking at videos of the Motorola Droid X, compared against the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC EVO 4G....and the Droid X kicks some serious ass!

Could swear Motorola had a South African web site, but now it looks like there's just a global Motorola Africa web site. Would love to know if this phone will be available in South Africa soon....

The Droid X is a CDMA phone, so you'll never see it here, unless they make a GSM version.

Damn! You're right, cos I can't get any info about it on www.gsmarena.com ....only phone they have "listed", is the Droid Xtreme : http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_droid_xtreme-3092.php

Yep. Unless Motorola specifically makes a GSM version, you'll never see that phone in SA. There's no point in even importing one. It sucks, because that phone is freaking incredible.

Yea, WTF. No GSM Android phones with HDMI out yet.

Closest GSM phone Motorola makes is the XT720. It comes with standard-ish Android, the screen is smaller, but the resolution is the same (480 x 854 pixels, 3.7 inches), same 8mp camera, a 720mhz processor :/, and its a little ugly with those touch camera controls. http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_milestone_xt720-3375.php

The Galaxy S will be getting a cable that provides HDMI out through its micro-USB port :)

Saw that the other day, seems reasonable priced at $50 but it seems to be no where in stock. I wonder if it functions the same way as the 3.5mm headphone to RCA, saw AndroidAndMe played Modern Combat: Sandstorm through it.

A bit on the slow side as well, seems the camera is the only thing that actually saves it.

At the Google IO conference this year everyone got either a Droid X or a Nexus One depending where they came from. Americans got the Droid X's, and Europeans got the Nexuses purely because of what networks it can be used on.

This information is not accurate :)

The Droid X was only released a few weeks ago, google I/O was months ago ;)

At Google I/O this year, each developer was pre-mailed a Motorola Droid before the event, and at the event itself, they were each given an EVO 4G as well (those had to be returned, or purchased, though, AFAIK).

A fairly well known female developer, Gina Trapani, (you might know her from Lifehacker) mentioned this on TWiG and posted about it on her blog as well :)

I listen to TWIG in the car, so I must have been fighting a taxi on the road when they discussed it, and got completely mixed up;-)

Hahahahah! Also a TWiG listener, I see :P

Yeah, I read an article about the phones at Google I/O on Gina's blog (Swarterware). Either way, who cares, they got free phones :P
