I've been using AVG and Ewido (anti-spyware) for a couple of weeks now and am very pleased with them.
I previously used Norton until the Licum virus infected my PC. Couldn't understand why Norton could not clean my PC (had latest definitions). Kept on being infected with this virus. So I switched to AVG and voila. Norton was not finding all the infected files.
Also the updates for AVG are so much smaller than Norton's 5-7meg updates.

Norton is a virus...
I use NOD32 (not free alas) but I've heard good things about AVG. Anti-spyware I use Ad Aware SE Personal.

I purchased AVG 7 Pro a while ago and was quite happy. Used that with SPybot (excellent) and AdAware.
Then I got my new PC with XP 64bit edition and AVG Pro wouldnt run. Did a search for free AVs that had support for 64bit machines and seems Avast was the only one. And I must say it rocks! While transfering all my data onto the new machine it found a trojan that had been hiding in a saved html document on my old machine running AVG!

If your looking for something half decent for free get hold of Avast, pretty decent and the def updates are tiny which is great when your conserving bandwidth.

Avast (used to use AVG but Avast rocks so much more)
SpyBot & Ad-Aware Personal
I've not had any problems at all with this box since putting those on. Oh, and for a single connected Windows box - Sygate Personal Firewall is a must for you freebie-seekers. ;)
AVG Free and Spybot S&D.. hardly ever install them though as I don't open dodgy attachments or download warez :)

As far as spyware is concerned, I've been using Microsoft Antispyware Beta.
Before this my pc was constantly clogged up with spyware.
Internet security - I would agree that Norton IS a virus. I've shopped around quite a bit and now use Trend Micro PC Cillin (not free though), but to me the
best program out there.

Use Zone Alarm + Ipcop combination for firewall
Use Nod32 - and pay to be completely protected without the shiet norton causes (trial available ..-..-..-..-:)
I found AVG was crap norton anything these days just causes crap
For spyware zoneAlarm pay version seems to have some sort of ability but Ad aware cleans my pipes.
I don't like ms antispyware.
Btw zonealarm has been asking me whether msn messenger can track my mouse and keyboard movements - um NO! --- maybe some sort of spyware built into messenger??? -- only zonealarm picked up and stopped.

I just use Zone Alarm. I have AVG installed somewhere but its so outdated and I never use it or need it. I don't have any anti-spyware proggies installed but Ad-aware and Spybot are good. Be sure to keep your windows patched up and keep your firewall on 24/7 and don't be stupid, i.e. installing suspect programs, like dodgy toolbars and stuff from crack sites.

Avast (used to use AVG but Avast rocks so much more)
I love the way Avast tells you out loud every time it updates your virus definitions. I think it was the Lexmark printers that used to tell you when they were printing a page. I mean how redundant is that :p

Fergus :
I don't want to know about it updating unless it finds a virus...

Yeah, what IS that? I had ZoneAlarm and almost every five minutes a pop-up asking me if messenger can track my keyboard and mouse movements.I thought maybe messenger needs to do that for some reason. Now I'm thinking: Microsoft is helping the FBI to spy on ppl, quick!, format your harddrive and get rid of all the illegal music, movies, porn, software etc. you've downloaded. LOL :D

Avast 4 Home Edition is the best free antivirus ive ever used. You do need to register the product, but the registration is free and is valid for 12 months. I've been using Avast4 for couple years now, and have very few (if any) problems.

I really do not think msn messenger needs to track your mouse and keyboard movements. Whats Bill doing? Trying to orgasm off of the movements.
