Hi guys
Service Plan Extension and Maintenance Plan Extension what is the difference between the two?
Are there true benefits to extending motor plan/service plan as opposed to paying cash when vehicle due for service?
I currently own Golf 5 Gti and service plan/maintenance plan expires on 60 000km, I am considering extension but not sure if this will yield true savings.

Service plan only covers service costs (minor, major and guessing cam belt services).
Maintenance covers everyhting except for Tyres (and they do cover wheel alignment and balancing).
So brakes, to lights, to wipers... everthing.

That depends on the manufacturer.

Wats the difference in price.
Also remember that service plan is not a warranty - so if yr turbo blows, ... $$$.
Double check if the maintenance plan covers warranty.
Car costs can be broken down into 3 cat:
Services - fixed price with inflation releated increases
Maintenance - covers wear and tear items, brakes lights...
Warranty - when things break.
I think only Audi, Merc and BMW gives u a package that covers all 3.

dude. Motowrong is crap...one of the golfs I'm looking at has an extended 100 000kms service plan. But no waranty, so I call up motorite...29k for full waranty and service plan to 100 000kms...
then I asked them for just waranty...bru! 4k and 8k depending on millleage...
but its crap, like they only cover R2500 of this and 2500 of that... i say rather go with an unlimited waranty....its expensive but worth it...or go to VW and ask them for a quote on an extension. Service you can pay for yourself man.

try to get an extension on the original automotion maintainence plan.
if you only have the service plan, i dont think u can get the maint plan now
they shoud be able to give u a quote, the vw plan is much better than the aftermarket ones
This has been my experience. On my Audi A4 I took out a service and maintenance plan with McCarthy when my mileage was just under 120 000 km. The plan offered cover for a further 60 000km or 3 years and cost around R20k in 2008
To date I have claimed about R50k with no hassle including scheduled services, various repairs and a new clutch at a cost of R21k. All work has been done by an Audi dealer. I can recommend if McCarthy still offers these plans. At the time an extended Audi Freeway plan was about the same price for only 2 years or 40 000km. The telephone number for McCarthy is (031) 268-9301.

I think Volvo has a 5 year / 100,000kn on all as well

I am with motorite, paid 16k for 60000km as full maintenance plan.
They have paid for everything and I do mean everything. Never had an inch of trouble, and the car dealership said they about the best to deal with?
The only clause was if ur motor pops they only cover up to 20k on mine...

You see with issues like this one, there will always be differing views, I must decide on a motorite waranty, and was advised against it. Most people I know said to rather go with a Titanium package from who knows where...but it covers a little more than the quote motorite gave me.
I'll most likely extend the maintenance plan with VW once the service plan runs out.

3 different things
All new Volkswagens will be covered by a 3-year/120,000km warranty (whichever comes first)
My car only has 56000km so I am guessing that I don't have to worry about extending warranty plan for now? Just need to worry about extending maintenance and service plan....right

it depends how old it is for the warranty
but id just extend the maintainence plan and that should also be like a warranty
if anything breaks/fails while under maintainence plan youll be covered - correct me if im wrong please
just make sure its the vw automotion maintainence plan and not some other 3rd party one

check in your service book, there should be an automotion booklet with the info

Best t buy a Subaru. No charge for anything except tyres and your own fuel for the first 3 years/63000 - can be extended to 5/100 or 7 /200 should you be a high miler.
