I just got a new Netgear DGN2200 router, and plugged it all in, it syncs to the exchange but refuses to login to any of my ADSL accounts.
Does anyone remember what the telkom ADSL free tester thingy username and password is?
It was something like
Username: telkom
Password: guest
Or something like that.
Is your VPI and VCI settings correct?

I have this router, no problems for me. Syncs beautifully, and the connection is stable. Either your router is faulty, or your settings are incorrect.

You might need to verify the ADSL line with Telkom...

With a little bit of bit grease I got it working in the end. Syncing nicely to the exchange at 2.8meg when my old router maxed out at 1.3meg. Very happy with it :)

Got one, great router.

Also just got one, battling with the same problem in setting up Windows dial-up PPPoE. How did you fix the problem?
If you want to dial a PPPoE connection from Windows, your router has to be in bridge mode.
Got this router a couple of days ago and so far so good.
Using it as an AP with 2 other Linksys routers as wireless client bridges connecting to it, works great.

Yip, but how, on this specific model?

How do I put the router in bridge mode?
Usually I would just refer you to the manual, but unfortunately I can't find anything in the manual about how to configure the ADSL in bridge mode. The only thing they mention are the specifications: "TCP/IP, RIP-1, RIP-2, DHCP, PPPoE or PPPoA, RFC 1483 Bridged or
Routed Ethernet, and RFC 1577 Classical IP over ATM" :(
You will most likely have to go into Advanced -> WAN or something like that to add the Bridge interface. The VPI/VCI should remain 8/35 respectively - just like you have with the PPPoE connections.
Other than that, I can't think of anything that you would have to configure.

I contacted Netgear support, and according to them this router cannot be set into bridged mode.

It is definitely possible, but the standard web interface menu's doesn't allow you to :p

This setup works with DGN2000, never tried it with DGN2200. You can test it though:
1. Access the web-user interface of the modem by typing http://192.168.0.1 in the address field.
2. When prompted, enter “admin” for the username and “password” for the password (if you haven't changed yet the password for the interface).
3. Once logged in change the address URL in the address bar from:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=start.htm
to:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm
4. This opens a hidden configuration page on router. Select 'Modem (Modem only)' and click Apply. This will convert the router into a simple ADSL mode. Router (Modem + Router) sets the device to modem-router mode.
5. After setting up the modem to Bridge mode, Basic Settings option is gone under Setup tab. You could still configure the ADSL settings though.
6. You can now connect the DGN2200 to your router or computer and setup for a PPPoE connection.
This is just one of the reasons why I hate Netgear. The other one is that they're useless in poor ADSL conditions - like when you're 3.5km from the DLSAM and would like to sync at 4Mbps.

I have 7 of them in different places all in bridge mode.
Its quite simple. Log into the web interface and change the last bit of the address to mode.htm eg htt://192.168.0.1/mode.htm then you will get the option to change it.

When I enter the address, I get: "404 Not Found. The resource you have requested is not available."
Spynx, try the URL as like I've given: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/279947-Bought-a-new-DGN2200-wont-login-to-ADSL-but-syncs-to-exchange?p=5137415&viewfull=1#post5137415

Tried it again, getting 404
Tried it again, getting 404
Start > Run > type cmd
ipconfig /all
What does it show under default gateway? That's your router's IP address.. (192.168.0.1 by default)

It's 192.168.0.1
I can log into my router, I just cannot access http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm
Sorry Spynx. I didn't see that you made that original post on the Netgear forums.
Spynx, if you're on Windows Vista/7, then I would suggest that you install the Telnet Client (Start -> Run -> appwiz.cpl -> Turn Windows features on or off)
Then run 'telnet 192.168.0.1' < replace 192.168.0.1 with your router's IP address
and then log in using your router's username + password.
Then type in 'brctl show', 'wan show', 'ifconfig' & 'help' and post the output here. You might want to filter out the last part of the MAC & IP addresses for privacy reasons.
I'm not sure if any of those commands would work, since those are the available/applicable commands on my D-Link DSL-2500U, which is running BusyBox I think.

It works just fine, except for the bridge mode which I still cannot find a solution for :(

Have you even tried it?

Yes, I got one as replacement for my DGN2000 which got hit by lightning. I don't even need the bridge mode, but what I do need is VPN passthrough, something that worked out of the box without fiddling on the DG834, the DGN2000 and even on my old Linksys WAG200, but I can't for the life of me get it to work on the DGN2200. There is no setting for it specifically, and all the workarounds I've tried so far aren't working.
