The long awaited android update to Eclair will be available from Sunday evening on a market to market basis, we'll probably see Asia rolling out first and then moving over to Europe, expect it anywhere between 8 and 15 November or sooner

Not too sure about MTN, but im pretty sure if you got your cell through vodacom, you'll only get updated once all vodafone users get their updates. As i said look at around early to mid November

Updated mine as well! x10 mini pro
Cool new features and a lot faster and smoother.
only downside is the keyboard fullstop "." is now a "ä" but pressing spacebar twice creates fullstop :)

The update is 103MB I think.
The Messaging app now integrates Facebook contacts and more details per contact. The battery is definately lasting longer and i've played quite a bit with it today.
Unlcok screen now has option of sliding to left puts phone in silent and to the right to unlock.
5 more homescreens but I use ADW in any case.
More standard Widgets.
Bluetooth has been improved but I have not tested it yet.
And overall experience is a lot more responsiveness and smoother.
Here is another way with global FW not Nordic. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825675 haven't tried this way myself I used the Nordic FW yesterday.

I debranded my X10 to Nordic, im also on contract, and something did go wrong, but i just reflashed, then updated and now im running Android2.1!!! It was laggy at 1st then it just became super fast, it flys through the apps and Menus. Timescape has totaly been boosted, a lot more responsive and quicker, the Phonebook is realy fast to, Mediascape got a boost but still a tad bit slow here and there, but overall much quicker. The rest of the UI looks a lot more polished, it makes the 1.6 X10 UI look like Beta Testing FW, darker colours are used, with metalic icons in the notification bar, and Settings Menu, it all just looks great. Games are a lot smoother, the Web browser is even faster and recieved quite a few welcomed tweaks to the UI. Battery life has definetly increased, and the HD720p recording with Continous Auto Focus is just excellent, its almost like using Macro mode when taking a pic, minor details of the subject you are recording are clear, hats off to SE, im so glad i got the X10 over the N8, THIS was exactly what i was waiting for, and then some. :)

I also used Nordic FW and flashed yesterday. It's awesome but I'm having a little issue. Everytime I dial *141# to check my airtime balance my screen goes off. I have to press the power button, unlock, and then the notification appears :/
Is this normal or did i mess up by flashing?
Have any of you guys used the new root procedure? I can't get it to work & I need root to use Titanium Backup to restore all my apps & other crapp. The SuperOneClick just gets to "waiting for device" and stays there. I've searched through xda but they all say to just turn USB debug on and off, or to leave it for a few min. Well, I've left if overnight and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
Oh yes, welcome to Android 2.1, we now have the same OS as HTC users had in the beginning of the year. :D

I flashed mine today with the global FW as I couldn't get the one click root to work. Flashed with global and tried the one click root again. It worked but not straight away. I unchecked USB debugging pulled out USB cable rechecked USB debugging put USB cable back in, just carried on doing this in various sequences until it said it was rooted. Now rooted and all good.

Same here, there was an update on 1.6 that did help with charging the phone while completely off and improvements in terms off the buttons. My x10 mini didnt come with that, and the software update on the phone didn't say a thing!

Yeah well good luck waiting for Vodacom they might let you have it in 2013. The SA networks take ages to release localised updates for most phones, if ever. Thats why we all use the Nordic FW.
@web: thanks but I've tried that about a billion times, and replaced the 3 files from the sdk and everything else they suggested. Even tried the old universal androot apk, nothing works.

Is it safe to update my X10 mini to 2.1?
Well I finally got the Superoneclick to work. The (very weird) trick is to install the program PDAnet on your PC first, this installs some USB driver which apparently is needed for the root to work, although they never tell you that. After that the root works, no problem. Goes into a loop a few times and then poof! Your device is rooted!
Then just installed Busybox again and Titanium is up and running as usual. Now I just wish the xda devs could crack the bootloader so we can install 2.2...

Well even if that's true, if you check the forums, the UK (which would include Vodafone), isnt scheduled to get the update for a few months, I think they will be one of the last?
Edit: Also, when I got my phone, it definitely didn't have the standard Vodafone kit on, I had none of the Moxier apps on, which they got in the UK. (I have the proper X10, don't know about the minis)

Ugh, SE have confirmed everything will be rolled out by the end of November, vodacom X10's are vodafone kitted, they do have the moxier apps. Ofcourse you wouldn't have these, you are running different FW. Stop talking through your arse.

Just got off the phone with a nice chap from SE ZA, they are currently only waiting for feedback from Vodacom and MTN then they will release the update. Apparently Cell C has already approved and given feedback, tho this might be because Cell C only distributes the X10a and not the X10i.

No need to go Nordic - I used the Global software (X10i large) and all went smoothly. Had to check and uncheck the USB thing a few times to get the root to work but the 2.1 flash was a lot quicker and easier than the 1.6 updates. I found that I had to update the text file with the DeviceID manually and comment out the part of the batch file that did this to get it to work though.
I see that there are some tricks to getting the keyboard mapping back to normal on the XDA forums (for the Mini Pro users only)
PS: You cannot 'brick' your phone by flashing it and you can always revert to the original software it you have to take your phone in for repairs. I have happily gone between all the versions. Just backup all your "stuff" before you flash.....

When doing a manual on-phone update check the previous 'You have the latest software' message changed to something like 'You need to connect your phone to a computer to update'.
Yes my pc-companion also did an update of itself but after re-connecting my phone it then said I had an update which is indeed the long-awaited android 2.1 update.
Possibly check your pc-companion settings to ensure it checks for phone updates every time the phone is connected or try SEUS if you have it installed.
For reference my mini pro has the SI number of 1238-9802 printed on the back and had a fair number of apps installed but otherwise is 'out the box' from Vodacom. Still unrooted.
Update is worth it purely for the UI theme change if nothing else! ;-)
Good luck!

Just followed this thread more out curiosity than an actual need to have vodacom firmware but I think I might now put the plain za firmware on. Never had a problem with PC not detecting phone just make sure you tap mount on the phone when you connect it. Then once you have finished playing with your firmware download z4root from the market and root your phone nice and easy

The first few hours/reboots are slow. If it's still slow after this then you have a problem, or you need to "customise" your phone and remove some cr@p. Install the JIT module for a 30+ % speed boost. Hope this helps. You will also have one of the fastest phones on the market when the XDA devs release their Froyo ROM next week!!!

Don't use Sony Erricson PC Companion use this instead http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/detailed/updateservice/xperiax10?cc=za&lc=en make sure before you try update you delete everything out of your db folders tells you on my other link what to delete.
help guys....what router do you guys use at home/office?
cause my x10 (android problem with certain routers) gives me problems with my telkom netgear router.
Basically I can only connect once to the router, if I go out of range or disconnect and try connecting again it doesn't reconnect. The only way to sort this out is by restarting my router which is a pain!
Apparently this is a known issue with certain android phones and some router models.
Was thinking of the billion 400g or 810 but don't want to get them if I will have the same problem all over again.

Think I might have a problem. I'ver tried the SEUS (this link first) That's what gave me this error. I've now also tried PC companion, and it starts, but when I reach "downloading software" It said: "No software available for your phone yet, try again later". . .

Vodacom, and 1234-2564
Edit: I've also uninstalled SEUS, redownloaded and installed. Same problem. I'm lost here. :(
Should I unroot my phone again?

yeah, tried that. Works perfectly, seems like my update isn't out yet. Will run this one until mine is out. Thanks for the help man.

It's a different kit code, also Vodacom. :)
Just for info....if anyone is interested in what code you want/need, in case you want to flash to Global Generic or UK Generic etc.
