"Search site Ask Jeeves is getting rid of the iconic valet that has been its companion since its earliest days. Citing "user confusion" over what the butler character represents the search site has said that Jeeves will soon be phased out."

... that's a mistake, imho. One doesn't just throw away something of value, which the icon represents albeit of uncertain worth. Right approach would be to incorporate it into the new face of the brand, whatever that may ultimately end up being. You then retain the prior worth and can build on it. Marketing/PR 101...

Agreed. Make him an optional feature...

Something along the line of "Let Jeeves serve you for a week" and then let Jeeves deliver content to a subscribers email inbox or something to that effect. I will remember Jeeves...

From the look of things they will probably redesign their image, from bottom up, dropping Jeeves and any reference to "him". Probably try to cater to a broader spectrum of online users. I know for myself I still assosiate Ask Jeeves with the old setup of a number of years ago, and the current site is nothing like the old setup ...
