View Full Version : Please filter all swear words.
I dont mind if people swear, it's just that Webmarshal software picks up the swear words and blocks MyADSL as offensive and pornographic.
A lot of professional people sit behind filtering software and it's of no use to anyone if they cant see the website.

I think it censors by default. You must be running an Amish filter or something:)
Word's like wh0r3, sIut ect are not filtered and Webmarshal think's it's a pron site with words like that in it.

Lol... dont think you will ever be able to get around that. Tell your sys admin to chill on the cencorship..... see what happens when you work for a corperate ?:)
The thing is, there are a lot of proffessionals sitting behind these web monitors.
Best thing to do is to filter those words.

Yes, but lets look at the logic of it. For every word, theres going to be like a whole bunch of filter rules.
Ie... word: ship.
You will have to filter:
ship
sh!p
shlp
5hip
5h1p
5h!p
.... the origninal word can be blocked, but all the possible varitations of the word will be a lot harder.
Not really, only the overt swear words need be blocked.
Variations of the word I dont think will be seen as porn.

aaah, ok, I see what you mean. Oh well.. gotta hate censorship filtering :P
If it allows people who are not able to view MyADSL because of content, is it really an evil?

Just tell your admin to add mybroadband.co.za to the safe list on the filtering software.
I'm only one member, what about the rest of the people?

I suppose we will have to deal with them as they come in *shrug* Yours is the first post I have seen in regards to this.

The point is they wont ever be able to come in if the website is blocked as offensive. :)

Yes, but its a discussion forum, and "adult" words are going to pop up in "adult" discussions... s`pecially when one of the main topic of conversations is Telkom.

I have added www.microsoft.com as a blocked site on my firewall .. I find it highly offensive.

Agreed, folks can get pretty agro when it comes to Telkom, but I think we're all adult's here and dont really need to read the swear word's if we know the context of the post.
So, do we give people who sit behind a filter the chance to also get agro or do we keep them from joining us in our fight?
That is the only point that we really have to consider, any feeling's of censorship that people may have I think needs to be weighed against the benefit of having more members.

I personally think.. .just speak to your admin. You could ask RPM to filter the words. Gotta love corporate internet... CENSOR CENSOR CENSOR :P

I agree with Neio...
Does Google not apply an adult flag to websites containing porn and swear words? If so the pages on MyADSL containing swear words would then not be listed on Google. This will make the pages invisible to a searcher, unless he switches the default adult filter off.

Half the stuff I google for in google.co.za comes up. Me thinks that google doesnt use an amish filter:P
Hi Neio
Please give a list of words...members can then decide if it will inhibit their ability to express themselves or not.

Maybe it's just the use of special chars in words (i.e. 5p3c1@l) that needs to be limited, the rest is *ed in any case. So...**** will probably pass that filter, f@ck not

Just out of curiosity (and I think that some companies have draconian policies wrt accessing the internet) - How do you justify accessing this site to your employers? It would after all appear that they're concerned about the content being accessed during company time.

To be honest I am any blocking on this forum purely because it is so bad. I mean Ridd!ick gets blocked cause it has the word d!ck in it?!
Get a more intellegant way to block works and then lets look at it. Until then, why bother?

I justify it by my working after hours and making the company twice my annual salary in profit.
And if they did'nt want me to view the website I would get a dial-up and use the phone line.

dont you think your company has every right to block you from this site... considering they own the net connection that you are using in the time they are paying you to work for them? :)
arg... EDIT ignore the above... :)
but based on your previous comment your company wants to ensure you carry on delivering the results you are delivering by making sure you are not being distracted :)

And how come just that christian '*****' (jeeeezus) gets blocked?
How about blocking Buddha, Krishna, Ganesh, Shiva, Maui, Jehovah, Kamapua'a, Aesir, Andhrimnir, Angrboda, Loki, Astrild, Atla, Bast, Hecate and a few thousand other g0ds as well?
Who's to say I or others don't get equally offended when people mention the names of other equally valid gods that are worshipped? As offended as those of you who freak out at jeeezus getting mentioned..
why should only one out of tens of thousands of religious names be prevented from being used?
Besides - what if I was mexican or portugese or spanish and that was my name?
Block one - you should block them all. Or block none. It shows a weird bias towards christianity, which is only one of many many religions..
:P

Natural oversight (massive mistake), sadly enough.
But one that goes unnoticed and has been part of mans "talents" since we first were zapped here, spewed out by a megalomaniac/peaceful/evil/insane/fantastic/funny/wobbly god or grew like parasites out of a primordial soup kitchen, remarkably enough, in roughly the same location as St. Johns Piglet on the Parish, London SS 17 ET.
Some say the barstool in the corner by the toilet door is where life first found it's way around a soup kitchen, primordial or no. Others say it was in the toilet itself, a wise and uncanny thought.
What a silly Bunt.

Censorship…
So much for free speech HUH….
Gives new meaning to the saying nothing is free!
Perhaps we are already censored enough by… mmm let me think about that…. TELKOM & OUR F@@KlNG GOVERNMENT…
I say censorship shove that in you pipe and smoke it. Perhaps we should focus more of our attention to those b@st@rd pigs running our bandwidth into the wall & getting fat on our excessive pricing!
A whole thread dedicated to “censorship” … for F@%$ sakes, lets stop the bltching & focus people focus.

Please read my argument and rethink your statement, the issue is not censorship on issues, the issue is censorship on swearwords to enable professionals to view the web site.

Now that’s why I love Afrikaans it’s the one language, especially when mixed with English that gives such expression to life, that only a South African can truly appreciate.
For the sake of my earlier comments Neio, unbelievably we all understand the point you are making (as hard as it may be to believe with all the drivel we are throwing at you) but like many in this forum we do so appreciate getting under your skin on this topic.
You don’t by any chance work in accounting???? –… we will stop ragging you if you promise to remove the stick out your @rse..
OK enough ragging, you are good for a laugh at least, and your point has been made
